Canada Lookup Requests Completed / Re: Grimshaws Ontario
« on: Saturday 20 May 06 22:14 BST (UK)  »
Great help so far, now could anyone point me in the right direction or help me find any of them on ships lists??
Joseph and Mary Ann Grimshaw would have emigrated around 1870 with children Joseph & Leonard.
Josiah, Caroline & baby Doris must have emigrated some time between late 1900 and the 1901 British census.
Sidney went after the 1901 census but before 1906.
Sorry to be so demanding, I have no problem navigating British records but have no clue on passenger lists or foreign records :(
Cheers
JK

Canada Lookup Requests Completed / Re: Grimshaws Ontario

Wow thanks Karen, that was quick work!
Am sure they are all correct, This had been a closed line on my tree and until I joined RootsChat the other day, I had no idea how I would find any information on my Canadian relations!! Now have a couple of new leads to work on. I had Mary Ann down as a Watson, so will have to do some more digging on the Crawford name and also had no idea where she was from. Celia Louise I know is Mary Ann & Josephs daughter and Francis the informant was her brother. Nice to have a name for Sidney's wife will have to try and find out more on her. We have very little information at all about these Grimshaws but my mother does have a beautiful photograph handed down from my Grandmother of Edna and Cecil taken in a studio in Toronto. I guess at some point the families sadly lost contact. I would love to find a living branch, maybe one day!!! Thanks again. JK

Canada Lookup Requests Completed / Grimshaws Ontario
« on: Saturday 20 May 06 12:06 BST (UK)  »
Am looking for help with Grimshaws in Ontario,
Found the first family in the 1881 Canadian census -
Joseph (born 1841 England, Hackney)and Mary Ann with their 7 children; as there is a gap between Leonard born in 1870 England and the next Francis born 1873 Ontario, they must emigrated between these dates. Joseph was a Carpenter. Can anyone help me trace them further?
Also any information on Josiah and Caroline (possibly Nellie) Grimshaw (both born 1875-7 England) have very little to go on with them, they may have had a daughter Doris born in England in 1900.
Lastly Linsay, Linsey or Sidney Grimshaw (born 1884 England, Islington) wife unknown had 2 children born in Canada; Edna & Cecil (sorry no dates). He was a bricklayer.
Sorry it's so vague, any help greatly appreciated, thanks. JK

Essex Lookup Requests / Re: Ingatestone for HEWITT
« on: Thursday 18 May 06 16:46 BST (UK)  »
Hi LTS,
I imagine they are of the same family stock and if I could get back another generation am sure I could prove this  :-\ I hadn't come across your Benjamin Alexander in my research but I had looked at his Father Benjamin Alexander in Ingatestone (born 1796-died 1875). Yours are living in or around the Hyde Farm/ Murcocks Farm (back lane) area and mine are just up the road at Mill Green. These are, even now, such tiny hamlets I think it inevitable that at some point they are related, it's just finding the link ::) The fact that all of them seem to share a common family trade also makes me think this. Were you aware that the railway from Essex at that time went into Euston Station, which may explain why they are in the Marylebone/St. Pancras area. (mine are too!!)
Cheers

Completed Census Requests / Help!! Taylors of Windsor. Completed thanks!
« on: Wednesday 17 May 06 18:16 BST (UK)  »
It is bad enough trying to trace folk with common names but my Grt Grt Grandfather is making things very hard.  >:( His name was Robert Taylor and he appears not to have known when or even where he was born.
The facts I have so far are
Robert Taylor born either Winkfield or Sunninghill between 1834-41
Maria (wife) born Windsor 1844/5
Children;
Annie Alice born Windsor 1864
Henry born Windsor 1865
Frank born Windsor 1867
Emily born Clewer 1871
According to census records they lived in or around Peascod Street and Windsor High Street from 1851- 1901 except 1871 when Maria and the youngest Emily are found as visitors in the Robinson household in Chalfont St. Peter, Buckinghamshire. I can not find Robert and the other 3 children on the 71 census at all, have tried all ploys to coax the info out of my PC but not having any luck. Anyone got any ideas???
I get the feeling from my inconclusive search of the 1841 census that Roberts parents may have been older and died when he was quite young and this may be the reason for his lack of personal knowledge.
All searches for a Robert & Maria marriage have been pretty fruitless (did find a Taylor/Robinson one but is too late to be them) and I am beginning to despair of this branch of my tree. Any suggestions greatly received.
Many thanx

Hi LTS,
See that you are looking at Hewitts from Ingatestone. Which family are you researching and do you feel like me that they are probably all related all being Carpenters? ??? Mine are the Family of Alexander Hewitt (born 1816), he is my GT GT GT Grandfather. Any info you have would be much appreciated. Btw my lot are from Mill Green just outside Ingatestone.
Cheers JK
