Sorry, don't have any more info but after reexamining the census, it could read Shipton instead of Skipton. She ended up living in Usworth, Co. Durham. She was married to Joseph Husband in Seaham.
Regards Barney
Have now got more info on the family. William Schorah of Wakefield (b. abt 1825)married Ellen (late Taylor) formerley Dunns (b. abt 1830)of Manchester. Children on the 1871 census of Ryhope Co. Durham were; George b. 1851, Manchester, Luke b. 1857, Bacup, Lancashire, Sarah Ann b. 1859 Skipton, Isaiah b. 6th Feb 1861 in Colne, Lancashire and Emma b. 1866 in Sunderland. Can anyone help?

Is that in Durham City or County. I have the 1851 census but will need more to go on.
Cheers, Anne.

Thanks. The only parish nearby would be Norton but unfortunately I think it is the wrong Norton. On e is now in County Cleveland (which would be the one for my lot) and the other is still in Yorkshire. I have got back to John Biggins b. 1692 son of Johannis Biggins, but with the Garbutt family I am only back to 1797 with the birth of Ann Garbutt (parents unknown) Sounds strange, I know, but there were many marriages between these two families. I am looking in the Thirsk, Helmsley, Stokesley area of North Yorkshire.
Many thanks again

Yorkshire (East Riding & York) / Romaldkirk, Teesdale, Lunedale and Baldersdale
« on: Thursday 01 July 04 01:10 BST (UK)  »
Looking for any descendants of families from this area, any where in the world. I have many records from St Rombald's Kirk, Romaldkirk,  Laithkirk Church and Middleton-in Teesdale Church. Good knowledge of Baldersdale and Lunedale history. Also a vast database on the local familes, including other areas in Co. Durham, dating back at least 200 years. Would be glad to assist anyone seriously researching their family history. I have copies of  the 1841, 1851, 1861, 1871, 1881 and 1891 for Co. Durham and  North Yorkshire.
I am also within 15 mins of Durham Record Office and would be only to happy to pick up photocopies of any documents or archives housed there.
Please contact me with family details, e.g. names, dates, addresses  and I will try to help as much as I can.

I have 23 Garbutts in my line and 73 Biggins' so far. Too numerous to list. Unfortunately your parishes don't ring a bell. Where are Riccall and Bradesburton? and what villages do they cover?

Geoff,
It is possible the Orchard family were from that area. All we know is that iit was somewhere in Southern England. Furthest back we've got at the moment is Joseph John Orchard b. 1902 Co. Durham, son of Joseph Orchard & Mary Selby. Can't find marriage cert. in this area for them. Family memories are of them coming into the North-East around late 1890's. Sorry to be so vague.

Durham / Archibald Ramage & Smithson Peverall
« on: Friday 25 June 04 00:40 BST (UK)  »
Looking for any descendants of Archibald Ramage & Smithson Peverall married 1757 in Chester-le-Street. Archibald was a tobacconist in C-le-St. Their entry in church records reads: "Archibald Ramage, tobacconist,  and his wife Smithson of Wakefield" so I don't know if they both came from there of just her.  Known children were: Henry b 8th Jan 1769, John b. 1760 and Mary b. 1765. The large gap between marriage date and birth of first known child suggests they weren't from Chester-le-Street at least!
Mary went on to marry William Watson in 1786 in C-le-St and Henry married Isabeela Airey of Kellington, Yorkshire in 1792 in C-le-St. They had 8 children: John 1793, Smithson 1795, Henry 1797, Christpher 1799, Mary 1801, Robert 1804(1881 census-living in Spennymoor)  Henry 1806 and Ann 1809.
Henry b. 1806 married Elizabeth Sedgwick in 1830 in Bishopwearmouth. They had 4 known children: Isabella 1831, Elizabeth 1832, Jane 1834 Anne 1836, all born in Conniscliffe, Cleveland. Would love to find descendants of any of the above.
