Hi all,

First my thanks for trying to help but I'm a dunce where computers are concerned.

Gadget - your 'windows club' link shows a layout a little different than what I see on my computer.  Your link refers to 'change - screen - resolution' which is not a problem I have, I don't think, just the size of everything.

I click on 'Display' and below that is 'Scale and layout'.  Underneath that 'in Red' is 'A custom scale factor is set'. Below that an option 'Turn off custom scaling and sign out'. (Confusing).
Next down is 'Change the size of text, apps & other items' and a 'greyed out' box showing 125%.

Hope you can follow the above - at present I'm reluctant to click on anything for fear of making things worse.

Thank you Emeltom & groom.

Interestingly when I discovered the situation my first reaction was to switch the computer off and back on again, and at restart Windows updates were downloading (about 75% complete I recall) but that was the first I knew of it.
I'll wait until tomorrow now hoping someone has the answer.

Technical Help / Display size increased.
« on: Thursday 23 November 17 19:54 GMT (UK)  »
Help please.  Left my computer a short period showing normal desktop display but on return display is giant sized (desktop icons, websites, everything).
Can anybody guess what I've done, and hopefully tell me how to correct it?

Thank you in anticipation.

Thank you all for your comments - appreciated.

Alan - didn't reboot at the time but no problem at start up today so fingers crossed.

Ray - no double click I'm aware of or spillage on keyboard.

Hallmark - I like very much your philosophy, and I've taken it on board, mainly because I don't have much alternative at present.  I guess I'm a born worrier.
I will see how things go.

Hi all,

Suddenly developed a problem with my email (Windows Live Mail - Outlook).  Message bottom right corner reads 'No new messages' when message(s) are in fact received and showing in the 'Inbox'.

Anybody out there able to tell me, in simple language please, what is wrong and, more importantly, how to put it right?

dobfarm,

Thanks for your contribution, but not sure I share your thoughts. I'm no fan of Norton (or McAfee) and recently had problems with AVG.
Best we agree to disagree I think.

dobfarm,

Thank you for the link, that is interesting.
I'm still wondering though about the consequences when updates don't install, for whatever reason, and would have hoped MS might have issued some form of info bulletin, for duffers like me, when there is a known problem.

Dobfarm,

I use AVG Free, and I suppose it could be a problem, as could many other things, but we don't know.  There is no 'history' so far as I'm aware.
