Sorry Jenn
You did provide me with this info - I apologise for overlooking this.
It is all a bit confusing with the different spellings of Stephens - not sure where I am and what is right or wrong - but I guess that is what genealogy is all about!!
Thanks

Hi Trish
Well, this sounds a bit more promising!!  I have had difficulty ascertaining whether Stephens is spelt Stephens or Stevens as on the marriage certificate Ellen has signed her name Ellen Stephens however on the birth certificate for my grandfather the person who completed the official certificate has written her name as Stevens.  So, I guess it is possible that this is the correct person.  Does the AVRI give an actual birthdate?

Hi Magoo  :)
Thanks for the information you provided re Thomas and siblings who arrived in Victoria on "Tiptree".  I have a recollection of my grandfather telling me his grandfather walked from Melbourne to Moonta (South Australia) to work in the mines, but I didn't really know if this was true - or possible!!  Anyway, perhaps it was true and these Tregoning's are my ancestors.  Do you have any way of checking death records in Victoria and South Australia (probably in Moonta) to see whether these Tregoning's died in Victoria or SA?  Or, do you have access to shipping records into SA to see whether there was a Thomas Tregoning who arrived into Port Adelaide?
Thanks for your help.

Thanks again OzyBob, but once again, I don't think this is the right information for my Ellen Stephens.  She was 18 at the time of her marriage in 1895, so I have calculated her birth year as around 1876 or 1877.  Even though her marriage certificate states that she was born in Sandhurst, Victoria, I guess this could be wrong?!!!  Would you suggest any alternative ways of checking, ie would there be anymore information on the birth certificates of her children or on her death certificate?  Maybe she was born in South Australia - where she was married?  Any suggestions you may have to help me resolve this would be appreciated.

Thanks

Australia / Re: Anne (or Ann) Maria Ward
« on: Sunday 18 June 06 08:40 BST (UK)  »
Thanks OzyBob and Jenn for your replies but it appears that neither of these Anne (Maria) Ward's are the one I am looking for, as the one I am looking for would have been born in 1849 and lived until at least 1889 when her youngest child was born.  I presume the Anne Maria Ward who died in 1849 (reference Jenn) was the same Anne Maria Ward who I have the birth certificate for - but this is not the right Anne Maria Ward as her father's name was John and this child's father was Richard.

Perhaps Anne Maria Ward was not even born in Australia.  I believe her sister was named Sarah (born c1842).  Perhaps somebody may have records of the death of Anne Maria Ward (married name Savage) and/or Sarah Ward (married name also Savage) which might list their birthplace.  Alternatively, somebody may be able to help me out with shipping records for Anne Maria and Sarah Ward.  In actual fact, on the marriage certificate, Ann Maria has signed her name without the "e" on the end and one of the witnesses is Mary Ward.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Australia / Anne Maria Ward

I would like to clarify some information I have obtained.

On the marriage certificate for William Savage and Anne Maria Ward, who were married in Magill, South Australia on 12 Feb 1867 it lists Anne Maria Ward's father as John and her age at the time of marriage as 18.

On the birth certificate for Anne Maria Ward, born 16 Mar 1849, her father is named as Richard Ward and her mother as Elizabeth Fannam.  This certificate was obtained after providing the estimated DOB as 1849 and giving the father's name as John, however perhaps there were two Anne Maria Ward's born in South Australia in 1849.

If anybody can clarify this, it would be appreciated.

Thanks

Would anybody be able to check to see whether they can find any information about William Savage (born c1839) and Alexander Savage (born c1840) who were born in Westmeath and who travelled to South Australia together in 1855 on the 'Agincourt'.
Thanks

Hi Nell
Thanks for your very detailed instructions on how to request lookups.  I have just one question - where do I find the boards for Australia?
Thanks
