Cardiganshire / Winefred Jones
« on: Thursday 09 November 06 07:52 GMT (UK)  »
In later censuses when she appears in Glamorgan she claims to have been born in  about  1836/6  inCardigan, Cardigan  and Cardigan NK.The latter is probably correct as she had by then twelve children and her mind on other things. She marries at the Tabernacle Chapel Cardiff in November 1857. Her father is William Jones husbandman. I've identified a likely candidate  from Llandewi Brefi in the 1851 and 1841 Censuses but she is living with her maternal grandparents. Can anyone check their  parish records of around there to see if there is any christening (probably chapel) for Winefred

Ireland / Irish ancestors
« on: Saturday 05 August 06 22:26 BST (UK)  »
Hello, I,m completely new to Irish ancestry but I wondered if any one could at least point me in the right direction. My father had in total four Irish born great grandparents and I've made some progress  through the UK censuses and marriage certificates  as to where and when they were born and who their  fathers were.I might add all of them ended up in Birmingham in the 1850s or thereabouts. They are as follows:

(1) Margaret Hemming Born 1835 Castlereigh (?Castle Rea? ) Ireland . Her father Paterick was a weaver (deceased in 1854)

(2) James Guest born 1837 in Dublin. His father is Ralph Guest  a hatter who is dead in 1857

(3) Ellen (or Helen Connor born 1838 (approx ) in Galway. Her father is John Connor a labourer

(4) Mary Nolan born Ireland about 1834. her father is James Nolan (deceased in 1862 ) a miller. She however claims to have a first marriage with  James Baker, private in the 7th Dragoon Guards but I have been unable to track any marriage for them or death for James prior to her claiming she is a widow.r claiming in the 1861 UK Census . I suspect that her brother is  Michael Nolan

I would be very grateful if anyone could point me as to where I might find furthe information as to where they all cam from. Thank you.

Thanks very much for the reply. I've traced them all the way back to 1841 and the problem is for a small town there are lots of them all related ,all with the sames names, and sorting out who goes with whom, when they split up from. I am aware that there are three branches (at least ) I from William (born 1804 in Alcester) one from William just up the road road in Great Alne (born 1812) and one from William born 1803 in Coughton. And that is just the William Blundells. I am really looking for anybody who has further knowledge back ,on why there is such are large number of a name which appears largely to be Lancashire based in South Warwickshire

I am having a lot of difficulty with this family.  part of the needle trade they didn't wander far until the late 19th Century when they got wanderlust in a serious way. Anybody got any links . to see where they originally came from?

Thank you for your time. That at least eliminates one option. Back to the army site to see when they merged with the 4th. :D

Hi I'm new to this board but I wonder if you may be able to help. I'm looking for James Baker ,named in his son's birth certificate in November 1857 as a private in the 7th Dragoon Guards. I believe that the 7th didn't participate in the Crimea but were posted over to India in 1858.Is this correct? Also  by 1861 in the Census his wife is declaring herself a widow but of course this may well be grass widow alone. If you could give me any guidance as to whether he was a casualty in India. I am also interested to find out where the 7th recruited to where he came from . As his wife Mary Nolan was Irish I'm wondering whether he was recruited  in Ireland or it was a posting over there,This may help me find where they came from.
