Well - this was a very enjoyable episode!

Josh Widdecombe was really wanting to see what would appear in his family's past and at the start he did say he hoped the characters would not be boringly straightforward - I think he was truly surprised! I loved that quizzical aside to camera, wondering if this was in fact a comedy wind-up! ;D

His enthusiasm grew with every generation revealed - a great advertisement for the programme, unlike some of those who have featured previously! ::)

Roll on next week, with Dame Judi Dench!

Yes! When I used to transcribe certificates from the written registers onto a searchable database for the Register Office I had to include every possible permutation! Double barrelled and hyphenated names, plus 'aka' etc. had to be listed separately, so in some cases you would have many entries listed (especially if you had two double-barrelled/hyphenated names on a marriage certificate!) but they would all be linked to the same actual certificate. I think the worst I ever had to do had two individuals with double barrelled names marrying each other, both having also been in previous marriages with names they were known by - that took a bit of head-scratching to make sure every conceivable permutation was accounted for, just in case someone searching for the certificate only knew the individual by one particular moniker! ::) :o ;D

I only intend to do my usual weekly trip to Aldi or Tesco for groceries. There are a number of household items I could do with (that aren't available at those two stores) and at some point I will probably head into town to see if I can get them but I intend to see how the town shops cope and let the possible 'feeding frenzy' of shoppers off-the-leash die down a bit. Maybe in a week or two I might try it.

What I'm really looking forward to is being able to meet friends or family for coffee in Costa or Nero's - but that may be quite a while coming, yet!  :'(

My sister in law has managed to arrange a telephone call from the registrar to register her husbands death , it might have something to do with having a coroners report, it is difficult right now for the bereaved sadly

As I understand it, the bereavement office at the hospital were going to contact the Registrar to send the Cause of Death certificate electronically. We are waiting for them to contact us so hubby can suply all tge required info so a formal Death Certificate can be issued.  The funeral is organised up to a point - 5 mourners maximum, so that's me, hubby & daughter - no-one else can travel. Aunt's sister (Mr Stoney's Mum) lives in same care home but not allowed to attend due to lockdown restrictions.

Quite a sad end, but we will be able to livestream the service so family here & abroad can watch online.

Up promptly to get out & do some weeding before the sun hits the garden (I have Sjogren's Syndrome & can get sunburnt even in the time it takes to hang out washing - been there, done that!)

Tried to keep out of Mr Stoney's way as he begins ringing round people in his Aunt's phone book to inform them of her death (Monday), plus calls regarding death registration which can't be done in person at the moment!
 Meanwhile the conservatory resembles a corner of Steptoe's yard, piled up with all her belongings which we collected from her care home yesterday - can't face going through it all just now.

A nice walk with our resident house-guest-for-the-duration (Miss Stoney) and now sitting down with a cuppa, a hot cross bun & an episode of countdown! (.....and my knitting, of course! ;D)

Breakfasted, showered and dressed by 10am - was aiming for 9am!

Household chores (cleaning the bathroom, putting washing on) dominate the morning. Tea-break afforded time to fill in my diary for Mass Obs and the opportunity to drop into Rootschat while I have the laptop on. I'm trying to ration my need to follow social media and especially the news - I can only take so much misery.

Plan to get Mr Stoney out for a walk with me later, down to the canal and round the block - better than his effort yesterday which amounted to walking down the garden to put some rubbish in the bin!

Lunchtime - daughter and I will be glued to the TV watching a rationed episode of Neighbours (my only 'soap' vice!) then we will commandeer the conservatory to watch a Dvd drama, leaving Mr Stoney to his own devices, probably fiddling on his laptop as he half-watches a string of afternoon quiz shows.

There is also the suggestion of Mr Stoney and Miss Stoney actually sitting down for the much talked about game of chess - she has decided to use the enforced incarceration as an opportunity for her father's skill (!) as a County Chess League player to be put to good use trying to teach her the intricacies of the game. (I gave up that notion years back - he has his chess, I have my knitting!)

The great decision for now is what to have for lunch!?

Decided to set the alarm for 7.15am and make a proper start to the day, instead of the lately-acquired habit of getting up 'at some point' and just muddling through the days with very little structure.

Pre-breakfast cuppa with daughter (temporarily resident with us through the lockdown) then showered, dressed and fed before Mr Stoney surfaced!  Todays 'excitement' was a trip to Tesco to do the shopping - only one person per trolley allowed in the store so he stayed in the car and read his newspaper while I went in. Most things available (apart from 'domestic paper-goods'; didn't even bother to check on that other missing staple - pasta!) so not too bad, got enough bits and pieces to avoid going out again for a week. Social distancing of 2mtrs seemed to be being practiced by the vast majority of customers, less so the staff pushing the online-shopping carts! A few times I found my way blocked and had to retrace my steps and go another way, when other shoppers were dawdling along or just staring at the shelves like they had all the time in the world - not me, I'm definitely one of the 'get in, get it, get out' brigade at the moment.

Home again - one neighbour had a skip delivered this morning and having part-filled it he invited anyone else (lot of DIYers here) to pick out anything they could make use of, or dump stuff they wanted rid of. Not a great deal of social distancing being practiced, as far as I could see! Hmmm?!

Usual household chores, then added an update to the Mass Obs Covid-19 diary before getting lunch.

Daily phone call to the hospital to check up on Mr Stoney's elderly Aunt who had a massive stroke last week - no change. It seems so odd not being able to visit her, or his Mum who is in lockdown in her carehome on the other side of town - realise now just how much of our week was usually taken up with visiting them or taking them out or to hospital appointments.

A spot of gardening, mainly dead-heading some of last years shrubs, then a walk along the canal towpath with daughter. Less people walking dogs and no road traffic. There were about half a dozen narrow boats moored up but apart from smoke from one chimney there was no other sign of life.

It was nice to hear the birds and there was something splashing about in the water where one of the willow trees hung over the edge of the canal - I hope it was a duck and not a rat!

Home again by 4.15, in time for a cuppa before I get started on prepping veg for tonight's meal; plan to watch a film later and open a bottle of wine; knitting project going well - and so another day passes.

Can I join you this morning? I'm in 'diary'mode, having just caught up with my "Mass Obs - Covid-19" entries for the weekend.

I was intending to not just get up lazily this morning but try to instil some sort of ‘work ethic’ and timetable towards household jobs, taking advantage of the fact that our daughter (in temporary residence with us for the duration) is continuing her hours as a VA ‘working’ 9am-3pm Mondays and Tuesdays, from her 'office'/bedroom – so I should copy this pattern to some extent.

Planning the use of time, when it stretches endlessly in front of you, is prone to the prospect of leaving things for another day – so very little actually gets done!  Washing up and laundry are carrying on as usual, I put a load on earlier, but the weather doesn't look good for hanging it outside, so it will be on airers again.

Tidying up, vacuuming, cleaning bathrooms and toilets are being done when needed. If it was a little warmer outside I’d take advantage of the weather and do some more gardening; this keeps getting put off, the tip is closed so whatever waste I create has to be kept somewhere!

Waiting until after lunch to ring the hospital to see progress of Mr Stoney's elderly Aunt, who was rushed in after a massive stroke on Saturday Morning. We last saw her and his Mum a fortnight ago, when the care home (just the other side of town) went into lockdown.

Lunch is the next exciting 'event' in the household - on goes the kettle for starters!
