World War One / Two KIAs same number
« on: Tuesday 29 January 19 11:53 GMT (UK)  »
Whilst researching something entirely different , I came across a mention of Acting Corporal 10576 Anthony Ashton , 8th Battalion Royal Dublin Fusiliers killed in action 29th April 1916. He is commemorated on the Loos Memorial.
I have a relative , Private 10576 Thomas Baird, 2nd Seaforth Highlanders killed in action 14th October 1916 .He is buried in Serre Road #2 Cemetery.
My relative had this number pre outbreak of war as he was a regular soldier so it could not have been issued to him after the death od Corporal Ashton.
Would appreciate an explanation please.

Australia / Robert Buchanan Master Mariner
« on: Thursday 20 April 17 14:11 BST (UK)  »
This is an extremely long shot but here goes.
An old friend of mine in his 80's here in Glasgow called James Stevenson is wondering if his old pal Robert Buchanan from Glasgow , probably aged about 86 is still on the go. He emigrated to Australia with his family.
Last known whereabouts was Glasgow in 1958 when Robert Buchanan was studying in Glasgow for his Ship Masters Certificate of Competency.

Any information more than greatly appreciated.

On a recent visit to Arran I saw the memorial to the men lost with HMS/M Vandal off Lochranza in 1943. Can someone educate me as to what HMS/M stood for?

Cork / Michael Vaughan and Mary Hagerty in County Cork
« on: Tuesday 25 October 16 13:07 BST (UK)  »
There is a record of a baptism for Patrick Vaughan in 1845 son of Michael Vaughan and Mary Hagerty in the parish of Kilmurry in County Cork. I am researching a brother of Patrick called Denis Vaughan, born in Ireland,  who married an Annie O'Malley in Glasgow , Scotland in 1868.
Any information on Michael Vaughan and Mary Hagerty or the birthplace in Ireland of Denis Vaughan would be greatly appreciated.

She married a Denis Vaughan(also born in Ireland) , a shipyard worker, in Anderston,Glasgow in 1868 and she died in Glasgow in 1895.
They had seven children all born in Glasgow.
