Is there a record of a church marriage for the parents?  If the parents only had a civil marriage, probably the children were not baptized.

Could also be the groom's mother.  I believe it was fairly common for the mother of the groom and the father of the bride to serve as witnesses.

1911 census seems to be the last confirmed record of Dorothy then aged 23.

1922 Possible marriage.  Dorothy would have been 34.

1941 Date of mother's will.  Mother gave land to her sons, money to her grandchildren and nothing to her daughters.

Are the grandchildren mentioned by name?

Given that she signed Sarah Jane Dorothy Adams when she witnessed her brother's wedding.  I would assume that was the name she used for any official purpose including her own marriage certificate - if she married.

Don't know how deeply you want to go into this, but possibly/probably her father left a will.

So it's pretty well established that for some unknown reason Dorothy's birth was never registered.

That leaves the missing death record.  Seems like the only stone left unturned is her mother's will which might have some clues - if not answers.

Good luck!

Hi,

[ Walter Adams 1856-1919 and Sarah Elizabeth White 1882-1941; )  Perhaps you meant 1862?

Have you eliminated the following:

Dorothy was born before the marriage and was registered under her mother's name.
Dorothy died before marriage with death recorded as Dorothy Adams.

Hi,

This has got me wondering about a couple of things.

Does the government keep a record of people who are reported missing?  If so, for how long?

When an unidentified body is found what kind of record is kept of the death?

Makes me think there may be more than a few people for whom there is no death record.

Hi,

It seems entirely reasonable to simply conclude that the couple was childless. We're used to seeing multiple children born to couples at that time, but I'm sure there were more than a few who had no children - for a variety of reasons.

Ciderdrinker,

Thank you so much!  You've made my day.

"Hale, hearty and in possession of his faculties".  Can't ask for more at that age. I knew of a connection to the Luxford family. Now that I know how extensive it was I'll do more research on them.

Best,  Jann
