I'd like some help in trying to put attach a date to this photo.  I'd also like to see if it could be fixed up a bit, perhaps lightened, etc.

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Please Date and Restore Photos
« on: Saturday 25 February 12 13:15 GMT (UK)  »
Hello, I believe the two pictures here are of the same kids taken a few years apart.  I was hoping someone could help date and restore the photos.  These are both tintype photos.

Also for anyone who's pretty good at identification does the girl in the picture appear to be the same as one of the girls in a picture from this previous post?

Your help is greatly appreciated.

England / SANDERS - WARWICK early 1800s
« on: Thursday 23 February 12 12:47 GMT (UK)  »
I'm looking for the parents of Henry Lewer Sanders and Ann Barbara Warwick.  I believe they were married in or near London in about 1823.  Henry was a physician and eventually emigrated to the United States in 1838.  I've seen on www.familysearch.org four of Henry and Ann's children (Mary Margaret [must have died prior to emigration], Henry [born in Germany, baptised in England], John Charles, Francis Augusta).

Any help you could provide in finding Henry or Ann's parents would be greatly appreciated.

Regards, Jim

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Restore Only Please
« on: Wednesday 22 February 12 20:58 GMT (UK)  »
The following photo is dated from 1896 - 1898.  This is from the photographers imprint and the fact that they were only at that address in 1896 & 1898.  This is most likely my Aunt Florence Sanders.  As she is the only child which fits the timeframe.

It is 4 1/2 inches by 6 1/2 inches.

Hello all!  The photo that I'd like to assign a date and restore to is that of the younger man.  It is a tin type photo sized 1.5” * 2”.  This seems to be an unusual size.  The photo was most likely taken in New Britain, Connecticut in the USA.

I included the 2nd picture as I suspect the younger man is the same man as the older man.  The older man is John Charles Sanders and the picture was taken around 1900 just before he died.  He was born in about 1834 and this is the only known picture of John Charles Sanders.  I wanted to get some opinions to see if anyone else might think if the photos are of the same man.

US Resources & Offers / Getting the most out of the US Census
« on: Sunday 19 February 12 12:09 GMT (UK)  »
I know I can't wait for the 1940 US Census and it's only weeks away now.  How well do  you know the census?  Are  there questions on the US Census which you just plain overlooked and didn't pay much attention to?  I know this has happened to me in the past.  The 1910 census asked whether you were a veteran of the civil war.    The 1880, 1900 and 1910 census asked questions like mother of how many children and number of these still alive?  Did you use these to find children who were born and died in between census years?

Take our census quiz at the following  http://www.hiddengenealogynuggets.com/genealogyblog/2012/02/census-genealogy/ and see more questions you may have over looked.

I updated the post to include restore in the subject.  I thought this picture was in pretty good shape but if it can be lightened up a bit, I would love to see it.

The following picture is from a photo album which I acquired.  I had posted a story about how this photo album came into my posession in a different post.  See http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,582264.0.html.  One suggestion from that post was to post some photos, one at a time here on this post to help assign a date to them.

The picture attached is a tin type picture.  It is #28 within the album. The size of the picture is 2 1/2” by 4”.  My suspicion is that this picture was taken in about 1870 and that the individuals in the picture from left to right are Mary Agnes Fryher, her mother Sarah (Hales or Hayes) Fryher and her sister Sarah Fryher.  I think the youngest sister Elizabeth was probably too young to have a photo taken of her.

I don't know if 1870 is correct or not, but if that is about the timeframe of this picture than the likely subjects are most likely the ones in the picture.

The Lighter Side / Sharing Genealogy with my dad
« on: Friday 17 February 12 16:00 GMT (UK)  »
I didn't get the genealogy bug until later in life.  I was in my late 30s.  My dad had been doing genealogy research for many years.  I wanted to learn more about my grandparents who either died before I was born or died when I was really young.

I started out with my dad's research and painstakenly looked over it.  I found out more about his parents and my mom's parents.  I posted a few queries on-line regarding our family.  One day I received an email which I couldn't believe.  It was a woman who had a 19th century photo album.  She was looking for a descendant to return the album to.  I couldn't believe what I was reading.

Well after exchanging emails for a little while, we determined I was indeed a descendant.  I now have the album.  I received the album shortly before my dad was diagnosed with a terminal cancer.  Although my dad is no longer here, I'm sure he was happy to see the album before he died and to know his research he spent a lot of his time on will continue.

I've been trying to determine who's picture in the album with varying degrees ofsuccess.  I'm chronicling this in a blog at http://www.hiddengenealogynuggets.com
