Somerset / Re: birth and death in Bath
« on: Saturday 19 September 09 20:55 BST (UK)  »
Hi Mary

Avon Street was in the Parish of St Swithin, Walcot but PR's of 1909 are not yet available on line.

I have found the Archives at Bath very helpful in the past at this email address

archives[at]bathnes.gov.uk

If you send the reference number for the death it would enable them to search more quickly
If you don't know the reference number it could be found on this website

Somerset / Re: Aaron FRY
« on: Saturday 15 August 09 09:21 BST (UK)  »
Hi John

Aaron FRY married Ann JONES at St Peter & St Paul (Bath Abbey) 18 Oct 1813.
Witnesses were W W SKRINE and Elizabeth SKRINE
Parents for Groom and Bride are not recorded.

There is an Earlier Aaron FRY married Hester SPENCER at St Peter & Paul 6 Nov 1757

Possible but notreliable that the elder could be the laters Father.

At this point the only Baptism I can find for a likely Aaron FRY is in High Littleton 16 Dec 1770
but I think this is an unlikely link if the second Marriage is a Son of the earlier.
There are a number of Aaron FRYs baptised in Lyncombe Widcombe and Twerton between 1803 and 1838.

One Baptism in Bath St James that may be of interest is
William FRY 25 Dec 1813
Father Aaron FRY
Mother Anne
Resident Horse Street
Fathers Occupation Painter

I have a number of FRYs in our Tree, one Aaron b 1826 Son of Joseph FRY

Somerset / Re: which newspaper to search for
« on: Friday 24 July 09 20:42 BST (UK)  »
If you go to
www.thisissomerset.co.uk
there is a map to the right "where I live'
choose Taunton and it will take you to the local newspaper.
It 'may' have an archive but will almost certainly have a 'contact us',
you'll find the staff most helpful.

The Bath & West do have an Archivist, who would possibly be able to help.
Perhaps an enquiry to the Secretary would advise of the archivists address.

Europe / Re: German Immigrants c. 1883 KNEBEL
« on: Wednesday 22 April 09 20:15 BST (UK)  »
Thank you Gaie

Yes  I found the family in 1901 but I have not yet used 1911.
The son who is of most interest to us was in the Army for WW1 as was his brother, both born in england. Their Service Records give no clues to their Parents birthplace.
however I'll try the TNA and see what emerges.

Thanks

Europe / German Immigrants c. 1883 KNEBEL
« on: Tuesday 21 April 09 23:55 BST (UK)  »
I believe we have a family connection to a German immigrant family in Bethnal Green.
The Head of Family, Wife and first child are recorded in the 1891 census as "German Resident". Subsequent children are born in England so it appears 1883 is the entry period.
.
The Christian names we have are Richard but appear on census as Rudolph, so I assume there was some pacifying of the names.

Was there any registration for immigrants around the 1880-1890 period that might reveal the origin of these immigrants? All we have at present is 'Germany'.

Thanks
Tony
