I dont know if this would be any help to you but you can search information on the South Hylton Local History website, you will find out where your relatives lived.

Durham Lookup Requests / 1841 Census Look up - Tanfield - FORSTER
« on: Friday 24 November 06 13:55 GMT (UK)  »
Looking for details of my great great grandfather Robert Forster born 1826 in Tanfield. Have him on 1851 census living in Harraton but no details of him or his parents prior to this.
I would be very grateful if anyone could assist.

Very kind regards# Mercel

Family History Beginners Board / Re: Coray, Cory or Richwood

Ive attempted this avenue, I tried her mothers name with the surname of Coray but still did not find anything. The mother and father went on to have other children and moved to Sunderland with the family. Unfortunately there is nothing for the 1871 census which may show me where Alice was. The 1881 census shows her mother living in Sunderland  in the same area as the son William, although not at the same address. Her husband William died in 1870. This Alice? then appears on the 1881 census with Richard Galey. It is very confusing.

I can see where you are coming from but all the Galeys were born in Lowestoft suffolk not Islington Middlesex and William married a girl from Sunderland called Ellen.

Family History Beginners Board / Coray, Cory or Richwood

I have a problem in that I cannot find any details of my great grandmother. I have her marriage cert  of 1876, married Richard William Galey 30th Dec 1876. Her name was shown as Alice Coray. She is shown on the 1901 census as 1901 census as Alice Galey from London Middlesex. Her marriage cert does not give details of parents. The 1881 census shows her married living in Ford Durham however on the same census it shows a William Richwood as Richard Galeys Brother in law, born Middlesex. It must be her brother but why is she called Coray on her marriage cert. I have checked an Alice Richwood on the 1861 census and she was shown born to the same parents as William. Unfortunately there my trail stops I cannot find her as Richwood anywhere. Can anyone help.  Thanks but very frustrated!

What can I say you are an absolute star. You obviously enjoy doing all this research. The IGI information you have given ties in with Roberts brother George (I believe)and they are the same date of births I have, I didnt have the rest of the family though. I have never used that web site it looks very good.
This is great, thank you again
