Hi Amanda, great to hear from you, very exciting!  What's the best way to get in contact with you - are we allowed to share our email addresses or phone number on this site?

Were you visiting to NZ to meet some of Astley's' descenants or are some living in australia?

Hi Carolyn,

Glad you got my message, chat soon. 😊

Hello Amanda, I am a nz decendant of John Laurie, he is also my 4x great grandfather.  I am from his son John Robert Laurie. I would love to connect if you are still interested, Carolyn

Hi Carolyn,

Apologies for the delay in my reply, I have only stumbled across this thread again from searching for something specific to John Laurie in Google. I do not know why I have not received notifications for this thread along the way. I would love to connect. Coincidentally, I met and had brunch with some of Astley’s descendants yesterday. I am descended from John Jnr’s sister Elizabeth, our branch remained in Australia.

Does anyone know what the building was where Farway Grange Nursing Home is located was before it a nursing home? I found a probate record for someone who is potentially my grandfather’s aunty who went missing. Their 1967 probate records state that their address was 33 Howard Rd Bournemouth, but from what I understand, this was before this address was a nursing home. Any information or clues would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Amanda

If you are still looking for this information perhaps it might be best to contact the Gloucestershire Archive direct.  They may be able to get someone to check it out for you.

I have just had a look at Gloucestershire Family History Society website and they have a help desk.  For a small fee they may be able to assist, I think if you are a member then they do research look ups free of charge.  This might be worth a try.

www.gfhs.org.uk go to research there is a form for you to complete.

Hope this helps
Tilly

Hi Tilly,

Thanks for your reply and good suggestion. I am yet to investigate this further. I am a member of the society but the information I need isn’t amongst the society’s collections. I haven’t followed this further to know which end of the “‘send a donation’ or ‘employ a professional researcher’” scale this falls on. Hopefully it’s the ‘send a donation’ end as it’s specific records I’m after which I have the reference information for.

Unfortunately the archives aren't letting the public access microfilms at the moment.  I was there yesterday, and from I was told it seems like this will be the situation for the foreseeable future.
As you have a date the staff might do this look up for you for around £6 I think.
Ok, thanks for letting me know, much appreciated.
