Yorkshire (East Riding & York) / Sir Thomas Wood of Low Hall, North or South Cave
« on: Tuesday 29 November 11 11:40 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,
Does anyone have any knowledge of Sir Thomas & Lady Sarah Wood of Low Hall in about 1807? Their daughter Ann Maria claims to be born South Cave circa 1807. On Genuki it says Low Hall was the seat of Rev. John Petch in 1820, when it appears to be in North Cave. I have from a book that Sarah Wood was the daughter of Captain Matthews of Portsmouth & that she & Sir Thomas married in Portsea.
In particular would like to know who Sir Thomas was, when born, died etc. Have Sarah's death in Birmingham in 1861.

Sorry, I cannot put up the original as I only have the wording that the lady who has the pictures transcribed it as - she wasn't sure.  I shall probably never get to see the original & she is not computer literate to ask for a scan. However, I am in contact with a cousin of hers now, so I might enquire if he has more knowledge of the artists travels - tho' I doubt it somehow.
Thank you for your time.

The Common Room / Where is/was the Palace of Ecuraish/Ecusaish

Hi ,
Can anyone tell me where the Palace of Ecuraish or maybe Ecusaish was. I have been sent a photocopy of a painting done by an ancestor in 1823 - the writing is a little difficult to read, but would love to know where he had travelled to in order to paint it - a very mountainous region, but a poor copy in black & white gives little away to me.
Cheers.

That sounds like a likely shortening. Maybe the man who wrote the memoirs was confused, I have no other proof that Josiah was known as Jessy, but then I have no proof that he was known as anything else either. Will probably never know - thank you for your post.

Thanks Little Nell, that would seem a sensible version of Josiah to me.

Thanks all, I have a girl born 1830's Sarah Jessy calling herself Jessy (yes, spelt that way), she had a male cousin Josiah who appears to have been known as Jessy (spelling not known on that one), but the girl's father died when she was a few weeks old & his name was Josiah, so I wondered was she given a 2nd christian name after her father, because her older siblings each had one name.

Can anyone tell me if Jessy/Jessie was a commonly used pet name for Josiah?

Hi,
I am always interested in more research, it is finding the time that is the problem! Henry Thomas Clutton Salt Ledsam married Lucy Sophia Alsop. Her great grandfather's brother was my husband's 3x Gt Gd father. It's quite a distant link, but I have had a lot of fun tracing them.
Are you interested in tracing the Ledsams? I think I did get some information on them when I visited Birmingham archives. I can send you detail of what I have on them if you wish. Let me know.
Kay
