Family History Beginners Board / Re: 1901 census look up please Cleveley, Emily

Thank you once again Tati.

Another question, in Canada we have what is called a City Directory where one can search by name or address as to who was living in a home during a specific year.

Does England have such a book for each city?

I am particularly interested in where my mother lived when her mother died in 1922.
Have a great day!

Tati,  I would appreciate a further look up if you have the time.  I would then have 1901, 1885 and 1881.

Can't wait for the 2012 for the next release as it will answer many more questions.

Again thank you M. :)

Please could SKP tell me if Emily Cleveley
DOB 1881 shows up on the census for 1901.
She married Ernest Cowan Mitchell in 1905 and lived at 16 Thomas St. Rusholme.

Thank you so much M.

hello, thanks for your reply.
She was born in Powick, Worcester and we've had a search there but nothing has turned up as yet.
One person thought that the return to Powick might have been a burden on the family as it was quite a few miles in those days.
All the best for a Merry Christmas!  Marg.

Hi Nanny Jan
Thanks for your reply.
This is what the death certificate states: When and Where Died -Fourteenth January 1922 "Wincote"Victoria ParkRusholmeHD; NameElizaCleveley;female;42years;Spinster,Housemaid(domestic)MitralValvedisease,Embolism,Coma,certifiedbyJ.CryerMRCS;Signature,DescriptionandResidenceofInformant EmilyMitchell, sisterpresent death16ThomasStreet,Rusholme

We have not contacted the Mitchell's as we have little to go onas to next of kin
We have written to "cousin" in Cheadle seeking info...Our mom who was 2yr age when her mother died seems to have been raised by family friend not Ellen Mitchell.  Until the next census comes out we have no way of checking where she resided in 1922 and on.
Hope this info helps, Marg.

Hi her death was registered by her sister E. Mitchell.  Victoria Park was created in the 19th century for people of wealth.
She worked there and appears to have died at a house called Wincote.  A phy. by the name of Cryer was in attendance at her death.
The rootschat line suggested I register at the Lancashire site is this not the right site?  Please excuse me if I have made a mistake as I live in Canada and get easily confused with your areas.
we have checked cemeteries and crematoriums close to this area and also the National Burial Index everything has come negative so far
We have written the church in the area St. John Chrysystom and haven't had a reply to date.
We assumed if she gave her body to science she would be buried but do they return the body to family or bury everyone in a common area particularly those with no resources.
Thank you again for your interest.

Lancashire Lookup Requests / Cleveley, Elizabeth (Eliza)
« on: Saturday 16 December 06 23:10 GMT (UK)  »
We are seeking where our grandmother Eliza Cleveley who died at 42 yrs of age at Wincote, Victoria Park Jan. 14, 1922 is buried.  Checked the NBI and nothing; checked at Southern Cemetery nothing;
We do not know if Wincote was a nursing home or a priv. home where she would be employed.  A Dr. Cryer pronounced her and we wondered if she would have been a coroner case; without means would her body been given to science?
Any thoughts to help us would be appreciated. :)
