Little is known of these grandparents, Helen beveridge who perhaps was born in Glasgow, and her husband, Andrew McCluskey who was born in Ireland
They were married in Stevenston Ayrshire in 1903.
the only known children are Nellie b @1908 in Paisley and Mary born 1910 in ayrshire.
Perhaps someone with Census Records for 1881 and 1891 may find either or both of these parents.

Hi Joe - No, I don't have the death certificate for Janet McCaul or John Hamilton as I know nothing about them as to when they were born, where they were born, other than their marriage in Abbey Paisley.

I cannot thank you enough for all the new information that you have given to me. I don't think I need anything more on the Leitches.  I never knew any of my paternal nor maternal grandparents, as they were on the other side of the pond and all deceased before I was born.

Hi Joe - when I lined up the families of Matthew Hamilton, Alexander Leitch and William Leitch, I noticed that Matthew Hamilton and William Leitch both had a Martha. Christina Cleland had a sister Martha, but I wondered if another member of the Hamilton family could be a Martha Hamilton?

HI Joe - I think you have a marvellous cat that can round up all my pigeons. I just heard on the news yesterday that there is a fine of $1,000 if anyone is even caught feeding a crumb to a pigeon in New York City. We could use a law like this here in Las Vegas.
Using the IGI, I could find nothing on Andrew Carduff. If he married John Hamilton's widow, there is nothing.
Naturally, I did not expect to find Charles, Janet or Elizabeth's birth, as I think they were christened in another church than the established Church of Scotland.
Likewise I found nothing on the Edward Gribben.  I looked for a marriage with Charles Hamilton and Isabella, but came up dry. I found nothing on the John and Edward Hamilton in the IGI.
Many thanks.

Hi Joe - Thanks for that information about Hugh.  I think there must have been a Charles Hamilton, as William Leitch and Elizabeth Hamilton named their second son Charles Hamilton (my grandfather). With the normal naming pattern, the second son should have been John, but I have found no John in their family.
In your 1851 Census, you mentioned a Charles, Janet and Elizabeth. Both Janet and Elizabeth's ages correspond with what I have found, so perhaps Charles is a sibling. Do you think that Charles may have died @ 1850's, and that is why Elisabeth named her second son Charles instead of John??
When I started Genealogy, I knew nothing about the Leitches. My father said that he did not know his father, so I spent many wasted hours looking for his death between 1888 and 1893. Charles died in 1908, when my father was 20 years of age!!! Charles was a Letter Press printer, but on any Census records, he was listed as a painter's helper, and on his death certificate, a laborer. I wonder, was he in jail??, was he a fitful worker, an alcoholic, when my father said he did not know his father?? Charles and his wife only had four children that I know of, and most families were large at this time.  I know that there are many skeletons in the closet, and this has kept me busy wondering.

Hi Joe - Many thanks for your dedication and your time on my behalf. It is so appreciated. I have much new information as result of your work on Walter Thom et al.
I have been able to extend much of your new information with that in the IGI.
You have Walter Thom, son of Hugh and Jean Brown.  Another Brown is all I need, as you know my gt gt grnadfather Alexander Leitch was married to a Jean Brown, and her is another, not to speak of my mother who was a Jean Glen Brown born 1888 in Bridgeton Glasgow.
You have given me Margaret, a daughter of Hugh and Jane age 8 but I could not find any trace of her on the IGI.  Thanks for this information.
I noticed a Mary Murdoch mention on the 1891 Census, recorded as a cousin, so with your latest information, I now know where she fits in. Thanks.
Into which Asylum was Hugh Thom placed ? With the living conditions in those days, the poverty and disease, it is a wonder that more people weren't put away.
With Hugh Thom put away, I guess that is the reason that John and Walter, while serving their apprenticeships are living with their older sister who married William Murdoch.
Also thanks for the information on the Hamiltons of Paisley.  There are possibly more siblings than Matthew, Janet and Elisabeth, but they were possibly all christened in one of those churches other than the Established Church.  I found the marriage of John Hamilton and his wife Janet McCaul in 1816 in Abbey Paisley, but I haven't a clue when they were born, or where.
Joe, if you have any brick walls, just send them to me, privately, as I could be another pair of eyes scanning the IGI.

Hi Joe - thanks for the McPeak information.  Sometime when you are busy with the 1901 Census, I wonder if you would look to see where Walter Thom was born, who was living at 99 Mordaunt St Glasgow.
You have supplied me with much new information for which I give thanks.

Hi Joe - thanks for the information on Janet McClusky.
The death certificate for Alexander Leitch stated that he died 28 May 1869 at 34 Yates St. Bridgeton Glasgow.  He died with lung disease, age 69 yrs. no med. attn. John Leitch , his son, signed with an "X".

Just a little more information for the records on your recap above. Janet Leitch born 1860 married James McPeak.
Alexander Leitch b 1862 I think married an Agnes??@ 1887

William Leitch  married Elizabeth Hamilton(sister of Janet who married Alexander Leitch.)

Christina Clelland Leitch b 1858 died 1860 in Glasgow
The first Elizabeth Hamilton Leitch b 1863 died between 1863 and 1869, as the other Elizabeth was born in 1869.

Martha Hamilton Leitch b 1873 was married to William Cochrane Jr.  and the children I have recorded are:

Martha b@ 1890 Glasgow
elizabeth b 1893 Glasgow
John b @ 1895 Camlachie glasgow
Jeannie Brown Leitch Cochrane b @1897 Glasgow

thanks again.

Hi Joe - Many thanks for your recap - you are a sweetheart, as I gained some new information.
On your recap information I was unaware of George bo@ 1838.
With later information that I was given, the youngest child after Ann was a James b@ 1854 in Glasgow

I have looked all over for Alexander Leitch who married Margaret McNeillage before 1810, but have found nothing. He was in the British Navy, and Alexander was born 1810 in Port Glasgow, Apart from that I know nothing about them. However, I think that John Leitch who married Flora McNeillage may be a brother, as they, too had an Alexander born @ 1808 .

I did not have the information taken from the 1841 Census - Linester Lochwinnoch, so thanks again.  You certainly were burning the midnight oil on my behalf and it is truyl appreciated. The first I knew of th is family was when someone gave me the 1851 Census, so I knew nothing about George, as he must have died in the offing. They must have attended some of those break-away churches in Paisley, as they are not listed with the Established Church of Scotland on the IGI.

Yes, John Leitch married Ann Thom.
Their Walter, named after her father, died in 1857 in glasgow.
I did not know that their Jane b 1865 married a Walter Thom, so thanks for that information.
ONe child not mentioned on your listing was Robert b @ 1858 in Bridgeton Glasgow because his mother's name was typed Thorn, not Thom, as they both look very much alike when typed.

Again many thanks for your research and the information you supplied from all those Census records. I have been helping others for about twenty years and only recently through Rootschat receiving the help from others.

Blessings Margaret
