Hi Joe - Many thanks for your dedication and your time on my behalf. It is so appreciated. I have much new information as result of your work on Walter Thom et al.
I have been able to extend much of your new information with that in the IGI.
You have Walter Thom, son of Hugh and Jean Brown. Another Brown is all I need, as you know my gt gt grnadfather Alexander Leitch was married to a Jean Brown, and her is another, not to speak of my mother who was a Jean Glen Brown born 1888 in Bridgeton Glasgow.
You have given me Margaret, a daughter of Hugh and Jane age 8 but I could not find any trace of her on the IGI. Thanks for this information.
I noticed a Mary Murdoch mention on the 1891 Census, recorded as a cousin, so with your latest information, I now know where she fits in. Thanks.
Into which Asylum was Hugh Thom placed ? With the living conditions in those days, the poverty and disease, it is a wonder that more people weren't put away.
With Hugh Thom put away, I guess that is the reason that John and Walter, while serving their apprenticeships are living with their older sister who married William Murdoch.
Also thanks for the information on the Hamiltons of Paisley. There are possibly more siblings than Matthew, Janet and Elisabeth, but they were possibly all christened in one of those churches other than the Established Church. I found the marriage of John Hamilton and his wife Janet McCaul in 1816 in Abbey Paisley, but I haven't a clue when they were born, or where.
Joe, if you have any brick walls, just send them to me, privately, as I could be another pair of eyes scanning the IGI.
Blessings Margaret
