Hi Heather,

Sorry! It must be one of those coincidences that we so often find.
Graham is also probably one of the most common names in Cumberland.

I include the following information in the hope it will help other researchers. The information is from extracted birth or christening record for the locality listed in the record, in other words they are not submitted records, but I have not included the batch numbers in case they are not permitted on this forum.

Hi Heather,

Are you sure that Margaret Graham was born 1799?

The IGI shows a family of Hetherington with a first child born to Thomas Hetherington and Margaret Graham, Ann, christened 16/10/1808 at Hayton by Brampton and a second child christened, Mary 31/12/1809.

The IGI gives details of 13 children born to Thomas Hetheringto and Margaret Graham, including your Matthew.

I would suggest that Thomas was born quite a few years before 1799.

Best wishes

Hi All

Thanks for your interest.

The burial for Stephen Chisman 1785 in Stockton was for a child, parents William and Margaret.
I have looked through the Bishops Transcripts for Whickham and I found the marriage by Banns for Ann Chisman in 1800 to William Rutherford
I'm now in the process of looking through Gateshead and will also follow your advice to visit Durham Records Online.

Thanks for response Barryd

I have noticed Ralph Cheeseman, innkeeper living in the Ryton Woodside area in 1841, born around the same time as Ann Chisman. It is also interesting as Ralph is a name occurring in my family but I can find no connection.

I'm looking for any information regarding Stephen Chisman who was living in the Swalwell or Whickham area in 1780

I have found a  christening for his daughter Ann at Ebeneezer or Ryton Woodside, February 1780, parents Stephen Chisman and Margaret.

According to the IGI there is a family of Chisman living in Lanchester in the 1700's and I have details of another Chisman family living in the Hexham area but I can find no possible birth or marriage for Stephen.

Can anyone help?

Merv,

Other than finding Olive in 1901 and Walter in previous census records I have no information.

Sorry Merv but I have no information that would help you regarding Olive Little and Leslie Tweddle.

I did find a record of a birth for a Leslie Tweddle in Brampton, 11 July 1909 and probably his death in January 1993 in Carlisle. Perhaps this is your Leslie.

There are also records from British telephone books of a Leslie Tweddle, Farmer living at Cumcatch Farm, 1952- 1963

I will do a little more digging and see what I can come up with.

Anna

Hello Merv

Good to hear from you again

Olive Little and Leslie Tweddle are new names to me and I have no information.

I was wondering if this could be the Tweddle's from Cumcatch. I know that there were Tweddles living at Cumcatch in the early 1900's

Best wishes

Hello again

I have been researching the Little name for many years and have therefore collected much data so a process of elimination is important.

In my search for Andrew Little, blacksmith of Blackpool Gate I came across your James and Margaret Little and their son Andrew.

Regrettably, our fellow researchers who submit records to the IGI have in some cases caused confusion and it’s best to use this information with caution.

It’s interesting to note that Bewcastle records began around 1665 and there are christenings for a family of Little, patriarch Archibald, dating from 17th June 1666.

I also have a Moses family connection so your Little family came into the picture once again when Jacob Moses married Mary Ann Little 1880 Brampton, 3rd quarter, volume 10b, page 643.

Ann Moses had her son Jacob before she married Thomas Hetherington and Jacob was brought up by his grandparents William and Ann Moses (nee Tweddle).

As an aside, I have a will and inventory dated 1726 where a cow called Moses was bequeathed to a wife!

To sum up there is a strong possibility that our two Little families are linked somewhere up or down the line and now that we have made contact I will bear this in mind in future research.

Best wishes
