Hi FloridaGirl.

I was hoping you would spot my request!!

You seem so very busy helping so many people, that to be honest, I didn't like to ask , I am very new to this,  but very, very much addicted, like most people who are researching their family.

If you can get  me any info on that address and, if you wouldn't
mind, No 7 Jolliffe Street, Toxteth Park, in 1915, I would be
really, really grateful.

I am really at  a standstll with gran's side of the family, and I am just hoping that they ( my grand parents)  were staying with relatives at the time of my mother and uncles birth.

Many thanks

Family History Beginners Board / Re: Leeds' England?
« on: Monday 26 July 04 18:29 BST (UK)  »
Hi MillieBug.

If your ancestors were Jewish, it is very probable that Leeds,
Yorkshire is the place to look.

In  the 1880's there was a very large Jewish community here, who had escaped the pogrom's in Russia. Most settled in
an area called The Leylands.

Most immigrants, but not all, were tailors, There were a lot of
"sweat shops" at that time.

Leeds  still has a large Jewish community , and Kaufman is still
a well known name

If you have any addresses for that period ,I may be able to help
you at least confirm  their residency here, and then perhaps get you the name of the nearest Synagogue, where they may still
hold records,

Kind Regards

I wonder if some kind person could tell me if there was a pawn shop at 116 Tunnel Road, West Derby in 1917.

My mum was born there, and I believe a relative owned/ran it.
There was a flat above. If anyone has access to a electoral roll
and could help me I would be very grateful.

This info may just get me past my brickwall stage!

Hi there Josh.

Don't bother about the Rose Ann Riley registered in Manchester, her groom was called John Hickson, so she is not yours!!

I am pretty new to all this, have been doing my family research for just over a year, not doing too well with my mother's parents side, but have gone right back to the 1790's with her fathers side. and about the same with my dad's family. Not bad to say I knew nothing at the start.

I am hoping for a bit of help from more experienced genealogists, now I have hit the proverbial brick wall.

I am based in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. Perhaps your parents were at Menwith Hill? Don't answer this if that is a sensitive question.

Will be in touch if I can find any more info.
Goodnight
Jeannie

Hi JJ.

As promised, I have the website address for the General Record
Office in Southport. It is www.gro.gov.uk. They are very reliable,
or they have been so far, for me.

I looked on 1837online, but the only Rose Riley I could find was registered in Manchester. Named as Rose Ann Riley the GRO
number is 5d 359, if you log on to their site they do give an e-mail address. I Think the quarter was june/july/august.

I am just going to babysit (Look After my grandchldren) I will have another search if I get back in reasonable time.

I am based in Yorkshire , so it is not possible to go and phyically
do a search for you

Best Regards JeannieR

Hi There!

I joined today too,good hunting.

I have found the marriage of Rosanna Riley to Thomas McCall
which took place at Blackburn registry office in 1857

The reference number is Rm/15/142 records being held at
Blackburn registry Office. I do not have the GRO number But I will look for it on 1837online and get back to you, with this number you can buy certificates online. Are you based in U.K?

Kind regards

Lancashire / Hughes Family Liverpool
« on: Friday 16 July 04 12:37 BST (UK)  »
Hi Everybody
My name is Jeannie, and I joined 2 minutes ago,so forgive me if I don't get it right straight away.

I am looking for help in researching  my mother's family.

Mum was born November 1917, at 116 Tunnel Road. West Derby.I believe this was above a pawnbrokers, possibly owned or run by a family member. Can any one throw any light on this ?

Because Hughes is such a common name,I am having quite a problem. Grandma's name was Sarah Hughes born 1879.Her fathers
name was William. Gran married in 1901, and lost a little girl in 1903,
Margaret Isabella Morgan Branwood, aged 16mths. Her death was registered by Isabella Hughes , grandmother of the deceased.

I can find no William and Isabella Hughes in the 1881 or the 1891 census with a Sarah Hughes of the right age to be my gran!!

Perhaps Isabella is a second wife . I have a couple of theories, and if any one can help me with this problem ,I would love to go through them. The address given at the time of  Margarets death was 83 Rydal Street West Derby.

In the 1901 census there is a Isabella Hughes living at 102 Rishton Street, Everton, is that anywhere near Rydal Street?

My Gran married David Edward Morgan Branwood in 1901, on the infants death certificate it was stated that he was also deceased

Many thanks in advance!!

Jeannie
