Fife / Falkland Parish Registers
« on: Wednesday 12 March 08 20:09 GMT (UK)  »
Dear All

Does anyone know where I can get a copy of the Falkland Parish Registers?

Had a look round the net and nobody seems to have them.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Hello

I am trying to put names to these people and it would greatly help if someone could give me a date for the photo. Any other clues would be gratefully received.

Many thanks.

Dear All

My husband's cousin visited today and brought a little treasure trove of photographs donated by his aunt.

Can someone please have a look at this wonderful photo and remove the cigarettes! If anyone has the time and inclination to colour it, I would really appreciate that. The photo shows my husband's grandmother, grandfather and great aunt. Never seen one like this before.

Only someone doing family history can appreciate how receiving photos like this can make you so ridiculously happy.

With very many thanks.

Ruby

PS - just had a thought - will removing the cigarettes make their mouths look strange?

Can anyone tell me if the Shakespeare Hotel still exists at 97 Park Street in Dundalk, and if it doesn't what is in its place?

Many thanks.

Hi All

I have a real puzzler and I am hoping you can help me sort it out. Some time ago my aunty sent me some photos of my great grandparents and their children but I cannot put names to the children no matter how I try – its doing my head in! I definitely need some more heads to help me sort it out.

I have four photos so I will put two here and post another two separately.

The children I am trying to place are:

James b 1893
Herbert b 1895
Charles 1897
Lillian 1899 (my grandmother)
Alexander 1903
Janet 1905-1906 (3months)
Vera 1907-1915 (7 years)
Leslie 1912

In the first photo are my great grandparents and this looks like an older photo and the babies could be either Herbert, James or Charles. Can somebody please give me an idea of the date?

In the second photo I cannot for the life of me reconcile the names to the ages and sexes of the children in the picture. I thought the girl on the right was my grandmother but the only way it would work is if the baby is Vera born 1907 and the boy is Alexander born 1903.  If it is them the baby looks to be about 1 so it would make my grandmother 8 in the photo. I don't think she looks that old.

I hope you will bear with me while I post the other two pictures and carry on the tale.

This is a photograph of four generations of my OH's family which is in need of some repair. I would really appreciate it if one of the restoration experts could have a look at it.

With many thanks.

Free Photo Restoration & Date Old Photographs / Can this tintype please be restored?
« on: Friday 04 January 08 23:41 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All

I have a tintype from the late 1940s or early 50s of my dad, grandad and uncle which is pretty badly faded. It shows my grandad on a donkey at a seaside resort and I would be really happy if it could be saved.

Could someone please have a look and see if it can be fixed?

With many thanks as always for your help.

The Common Room / Brickwall demolished!

Happy New Year to you all.

Just wanted to share some really good news as you have all tried to help me at some time or other with my husband's Cheshire ancestors.

Two days before Christmas I was contacted by a Rootchatter who had seen an old post of mine, bemoaning the fact that I couldn't find the Calveley family beyond 1805. This wonderful man turned out to have been researching the Calveley family for a long time and his wife is a distant cousin of my husbands.

Once we had established the connection I got an email with a gedcom file containing all the family information, back to the 1500s, that I had been unable to find! How about that for a Christmas present and what a generous thing to do.

There are so many acts of kindness on Rootschat but this one has really taken my breath away.

With kind regards

Really interesting website, belonging to the universities, where you can search for the Parishes where your ancestors lived. Great source for learning what life was like in the 18th and 19th centuries.

Written at the time, some of it is unintentionally hilarious.
