« on: Saturday 21 April 07 09:40 BST (UK)  »
Found this photo on the back it has Meek Photographers 185 High St, Deal Chris Payne 13/06/13.  I am wondering if this connects to the 'Daws' family dad's godmother as they lived in Kent.

Got the wedding certificate for Sarah Pitt and Richard Rees - which annoyingly took place before the 1841 census making the Pitt's difficult to look up.  Please could a kind soul could tell me who the witnesses were, where Sarah lived and as I can't make out Richard's address his too.

« on: Friday 13 April 07 22:39 BST (UK)  »
How is it possible for someone to have a married couple at the top of their tree, no other spouses, but for them not to be related to either person and the same goes for that persons spouse, also married the once?

Occupation Interests / Second Maid
« on: Friday 13 April 07 22:17 BST (UK)  »
I can't find it on any of the links and wonder how does it differs from a maid, would scullery maid be the same thing; although as Sarah Ann born 1810c can sign her own name and has written full age rather than 21.  I wonder was she that poor.

The Common Room / Star Crossed Lovers!
« on: Wednesday 04 April 07 19:38 BST (UK)  »
My great grandparents got in spite of family disapproval.  My 2nd cousin has it that they ran away to do this (but not far as they were living a few doors down from where George was born.)  I am confused at this I thought you had to be 21 to get married without parental consent my great granddad George Glen is a month of his 19th birthday - he was born 19 July 1885  they married June 19 1904, Clara is 22.  They're married after banns.

Would someone else have given George permission?  And if so would there be a record of this.

Oh George Thomas and Sarah Ann Quartly witnessed at the wedding (I don't know if this is relevant but Sarah Ann Pitt was Clara's grandmother.)

I thought these were the same thing under a different name but having seen on the roots family tree they're both listed, I assume they're different.  Please enlighten me.

The Common Room / Just out of curiosity

1) What is the earliest date, you've found that someone (women especially) that can sign their names?

2) What is the latest date, you've found that people sign with an X?

3) How far back did you go before you found your first Smith - if you are a Smith how far on the otherside of the tree?

4) How far back did you go before you found your first Jones?
