I don't see any conflicting information ...  :) :) :) :) 1950s v 1948 ....
:) :) :- :) Haberfield would have been within the then NSWBDM district of Ashfield,  and Haberfield has many streets that lead to the Parramatta River
:) :) :) thats the same waterway which is navigated directly from Sydney Harbour
:) :) :) it would have been possible in 1948 as it is possible still to be looking out from various spots in Haberfield and see the outline of Sydney's CBD, including for example the arch of the Harbour Bridge.

Ah then this could be a possibility.  I was going by my cousin in Australia as I don't know Australia at all.  Plus it wouldn't have been so built up back then I suppose.  So maybe Jane Sutton/Lambert was the grandmother?  Perhaps May and Joseph were recorded wrongly and it should have read Jane and Joseph?  But where is Isabel in all this?

Sue,

Jane's older sister Julia married Joseph Harrison and their daughter Ada married John Lee.

It has been a puzzle as to why Joseph didn't marry Jane when he had the chance.  He was known to be a bit of a "lad" - maybe successful people had to make higher class of marriage?  Thus poor Jane was ignored until very late in life.  It must have been so hard for her to have had all those children illegitimately.

Thanks Sue, Jane Sutton/Lambert was the mistress of Joseph Augustus Lambert throughout his two marriages before he actually married Jane in 1901.  He died 2 years later after having one son legitimately.

My DNA match said that his  grandmother lived to be an old lady and died whilst turning away from her window overlooking Sydney harbour falling and hitting her head.  In the 1950s.  Jane died in 1948 in Ashfield so maybe that was the grandmother?  Memories do become distorted. However my cousin in Australia says the place of death doesn't add up.  Apparently she died at 19 Wattle Street, Haberfield.  She was Jane Mead by then having married William Alfred Mead in 1915.

Isabel Henrietta Pattison - no date of birth but says she died 1943 aged 45 years.

Quote from Matthew:

ADD - The 'Lee family tree' on Ancestry suggests that Leslie LAMBERT *may* be the father of Leslie LEE.

This report of his 1923 divorce from Lavinia Violet (Storey) may give strength to that theory
http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article223465623

I have looked into all the children as being possible mother or father to Leslie Lee but in this case I wonder why they think Leslie Lambert was the father and yet the child was a Lee?  Unless the mother was a Lee?  But my contact was told by his father Leslie Lee that his father was a John Lee.  And Isabel was a Lambert.  All very confusing.

Thanks to all for your very kind help and suggestions.  I will look into all of your information and send them to my cousin in Australia too.

Best wishes

Hi Majm

Well this might be the breakthrough I have been looking for.  The Suttons/Lamberts are indeed my ancestors.  Jane Lambert's parents were Mark Benham Sutton and Sophia Wright, and they emigrated from Romford in England to Australia in 1873.  I am a descendant of a Wright who remained in Romford, a brother of Sophia.  So on my DNA matches most of my matches in Australia come from this couple.  They had loads of children Jane being one of them.  Her older sister's daughter married a Lee so that could be the connection but don't know for sure at all.  I and my contact in Sydney are 4th cousins but we can't find the connection.  However, as he mentioned Isabel as being a Lambert I did think of course of Mark and Sophia being the link.  Jane had 12 children all out of wedlock apart from one.  That is why her children were originally named Sutton but changed later to Lambert who was the true father (he was married to two others before he married Jane so they had one together legitimately).  I thought Isabel might have been hers but she had a son in 1898 which is the date I now think Isabel Henrietta was born as per her headstone.

I am curious as to who has this private tree with Isabel Henrietta on there connected to a Lee.  My family did indeed end up in Tumut.  I'm not a member of Ancestry anymore but my cousin in Australia is and has researched this as much as me but with no joy.  So I can ask her.  I am wondering now if one of Jane's sisters had a baby out of wedlock and had her adopted?   The parents mentioned as Joseph and May just don't fit in anywhere.

Thank you so much for your help.

Thanks Jamjar,

I have sent a message to the administrator.

No I don't have any certificates.  I am in England.  I don't think anyone in the family in Australia has any certificates.  This is the first time I have seen her name could have been Paddington.  I wonder if she was married before her marriage to Leslie Pattison?  No idea when she was born.

I do have the death notice of when Isabel Henrietta Pattison died in 1943.  She married a Leslie Pattison in about the 1920s.  The descendant I am in contact with and with whom I share DNA says his father was Leslie Lee born 1919 and his grandmother was Isabel Lambert, later Pattison.  His two half sister Norma and Ramona were both Pattisons born in the 1920s.  The death notice names them all so it must be the right one.  That's about all he knows.  Except his estranged grandfather was John Lee.

Thank you for your help.

Hi, I'm desperately trying to find out more about Isabel Henrietta Lambert (I believe that is her maiden name).

She gave birth to Leslie John Lee born 1919 in Sydney but I don't think she married the father who she named as John Lee.  Isabel married Leslie Pattison and they had Ramona and Norma.  Ramona married Raymond Cowan Sharpe.

Isabel henrietta Pattison death notice states she died on 2 August 1943 loving mother of  Norma, Ramona and leslie 45.  Her father was Joseph and mother was May.  I can't find anything more about these parents.  Can anyone help please?  Thank you.
