although confusingly, some peterborough records are held by huntingdonshire record office and some are now held in the fairly recently established peterborough archives!

The order form has been brought in because of new copyright guidelines, its something they're obliged to do by law. its not without its annoyances for staff either, it creates a lot more work.

i imagine the handling fee would have something to do with how little funding they're given by the council, they have to cover their costs somehow!

I think it was the Baumgartner family, Huntingdon Record Office has some letters from the family but from a later date than you wanted (1850-1860) and they also have a photocopy of the Baumgartner family tree which is marked to show the owners of Island Hall and that covers 1490 - 1917. You'd have to e-mail or call the office to get photocopies of these or you could arrange to come in and view them, whichever is easier really!

There are also some photos of Island Hall and the family in the archives but im unsure of the dates of these so i dont know if they'd be useful

« on: Thursday 18 January 07 12:03 GMT (UK)  »
Im looking for the parents of my ancestor Mary Ann Wells, all i know about her is that she married my great great grandad Frank Pilbeam in Hailsham in 1908 and she gave birth to my great grandad Thomas in 1909 also in Hailsham.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Norfolk / Re: George Bell b.1853

i have thought that margaret was illegitimate for a while, ad i'll get round to ordering her birth certificate at some point. i knew that her original surname was brett but she changed to perry as soon as her mother married thomas perry.

You say that George was in Mileham when his son was born in 1888 but the 1891 census says that young George was born in Necton. The only reference to where George (sen) was born is on the 1891 census?

Young george was indeed born in necton, but on the birth certificate the family's place of residence is listed as mileham. you seem determined to prove me wrong on everything, not overly helpful i must say.

i tried looking for george's death today but i couldnt find anything, story of my life with this part of the family it seems!!

well from what i know this george seems to be the most likely candidate

1874 - living in necton at the time of his marriage to margaret perry
1888 - living in Mileham at the time of the birth of his son George
1891 - living in Poringland, Norfolk on 1891 census working as an agricultural labourer
1901 i cant find him in the census

I am trying to work back from this so its not a matter of starting again, its a matter of eliminating people until im left with the right answer. and he was born in 1853 i know this from the census returns, also what made me think that william and elizabeth were his grandparents is that an Elizabeth Bell was a witness at his wedding.
