« on: Thursday 02 September 04 10:30 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I'm looking for the TAYLOR family, usually resident in St Helens, but from birthplace of the children they are in Liverpool in 1861.  Below are the details from the 1871 census in St Helens (Parr):

William TAYLOR, Head, Married    40, Engine driver, Colliery, born Lancashire, Whiston
Rachel TAYLOR, wife, 38, born   As above
Henry, son, 19, Engine driver, Colliery, As above
Joseph, 15. Errand boy, Lancashire, Liverpool
Mary E , 13, scholar, As above
Jane , 11,   As above
Rachel, 9, As above

I have not listed the kids who are substantially younger than 10.

If anyone can find them in Liverpool I would be grateful,

Thank you Gwerninion

I was not expecting a look up in Manchester too, this is great.

I think the Thomas Briscoe in Pickhill is Hedley's father and family and the Thomas age 28 in 1891 is the brother Hedley is working for on the 1901 census where I couldn't read his name.

Completed Census Requests / Re: BRISCOE 1851 lookup, Mouldsworth? plse

Thank You Peter,

I did wonder after I posted, if it was 'land' but it did look like an L rather than a l.  Never mind, I will still have a look at the tithe maps (eventually).

Unfortunately I have not yet found Thomas and Mary's marriage certificate.  there is nothing on the free sites, so I will have to pay more on 1837 or organise a trip to the frc.  However it does look like it may be within 2 or 3 years of 1847 as the oldest child is 4 in 1851.

The name Mary Ann Butler comes from Hedley's birth certificate.  It could be Butter as the l is crossed like a t.

Never mind, if this is too vague I will post again when I get the marriage certificate, re 1841.

Thanks anyway as this is still some great new info to work on.

Regards

Thank you, Peter,  this is great.

Yes please if you can find the parents on the 1841 that would be brilliant.

I am particularly fascinated by Thomas being a tenant farmer farming '30 acres on Lord ??? (estate?)'   I can't make out his name, any ideas?

Also, what are the main sources for finding out more about this Lord and his tenants?  Would it be best to contact a local library?  I will not be able to do this immediately, but it would help to know for when I do.

Thanks again   ;D

Midlothian / MURRAY, MALLEY Edinburgh
« on: Sunday 25 July 04 13:54 BST (UK)  »
Hello All

Please have a look at my name interests below and let me know if you have any similar interests.

In Edinburgh I am researching the following:
Andrew Murray m Agnes GOODALE, their son William married Mary CAMERON (parents James and Josie?)1870 in Newington Edinburgh

William and Mary's son Andrew MURRAY (b 1872) married Mary MALLEY 1895 Edinburgh

Mary MALLEY's parents were Michael MALLEY and Sarah COLMAN.  I believe they came over from Ireland so I loose them at this point.

Also 1871 LOOK UP PLEASE
for William and Mary MURRAY, married in 1870, The addresses on the entry are of very poor quality, something like 102 Janick Gamuel Street?? Edinburgh for William, totally illegible for Mary.  By 1881 they were at 13 Prospect place Edinburgh

In 1871 they may have a baby daughter called Jane.

Thank you

Completed Census Requests / BRISCOE 1851 lookup, Mouldsworth? plse
« on: Sunday 25 July 04 13:19 BST (UK)  »
Hello,

I'm hoping someone can help me.

I am researching  BRISCOE.  Joseph lived in St Helens Lancashire (where most of my research is based), but he was born in Denbeighshire, North Wales.  His parents were Hedley and Mary.
Hedley married in N Wales and worked on his brothers farm.  However he was born in Cheshire as follows:

(H)Edley Briscoe born Mouldsworth, Cheshire  May 1848, registered Great Boughton, Cheshire
Parents: Thomas Briscoe (farmer) and Mary Ann BUTLER ?

If anyone can do a look up in the 1851 census and see if Hedley (aged about 3) was living in this area with parents Thomas and Mary, I would be very grateful.

Thank you

Denbighshire / Denbeigh: searching for BRISCOE and GIBSON
« on: Friday 23 July 04 14:27 BST (UK)  »
Hello, I hope someone can help with the following:

Hedley/Edley BRISCOE was born in 1848 in Cheshire and moved around quite a bit, he was married and lived in Denbeighshire and then his son Joseph moved to St Helens, Lancashire (where most of my research is currently based.  I am looking to find missing census entries for Hedley and his family for 1891, 1871 and for his wife Mary GIBSON in 1861 and 1851.  Hopefully I can then locate her birth and more about her.    ???

I have the following information:

1901: Hedley was working for his brother Josther??
Pickhill, Bangor, Wrexham, East Denbeighshire,
Parkey farm
Josther? Briscoe, head single, 38 Farmer employer,
Hedley, brother, married, 52, farm baliff

His wife was at:  6 Clayton Square, Tryddyn, Hawarden, Flint
Mary BRISCOE wife, 44, born Ethels bridge
Joseph son 20 coal miner
also, William, 17 b manchester, Thomas b manchester

They may have been in Manchester in 1891 but if someone could check and see if Hedley was working at Parkey farm, that would be great.  I would like to know if his brother was there anyway.

1881:  living at Lavister, Allington, Denbeigh
Hedley Ag Lab Married 32
Mary  wife 26 born Rossett, Denbeigh
Children: Mary Ann, 6, b Wrexham, Elizabeth, 4, b wrexham, Hedley 2 b Rossett, Joseph 6mths, b lavister

Hedley BRISCOE and Mary GIBSON’s marriage cert
Wrexham, 25 Aug 1873
Hedley BRISCOE, 23,  Farmer, Pickhill Wrexham
Mary GIBSON, 21,  Penybryn ? Wrexham
fathers (groom’s first):  Thomas BRISCOE, Farmer,
Joseph GIBSON, Labourer

ANY additional info would be great.  I have tried various free sites and despite Hedley's unsual name I have struggled.  I eventually found his birth, but Mary's is difficult being much more common.

Thank you   :)
