Lancashire / Manchester Cathedral
« on: Sunday 11 July 10 18:41 BST (UK)  »
Manchester Cathedral seems to have been used by a number of people other than those in what may be termed its 'parish'.  However being a cathedral did it have a 'parish' that included lots of genuine - shall we say - parishes?  As a consequence it could then be used for marriages maybe by those who preferred for whatever reason not to be married locally.

Could someone please put me on the right lines please?

Northumberland Lookup Requests / John Robson / Elizabeth Willis
« on: Sunday 22 November 09 23:19 GMT (UK)  »
George Bell  includes the following in his index of Marriages in the parish of Newburn :-    John Robson / Elizabetn Willis   5th Novermber 1810

Unfortunately marriages for that year - and a year or two either side - do not appear in sequence on the IGI Pilor site.  If they are elsewhere, does anyone know where, please?

If the BTs have not been recorded for that year could someone look up the marriage elsewhere, please,  and let me know the parish of each and anything else relevant.

Many thanks

Lancashire / Some Latin help please
« on: Thursday 22 October 09 15:19 BST (UK)  »
There is in the parish of Deane records, a marriage which took place in 1617 between Emorus Aynesworth pochianus de Burriie et Anna Cl.

Translating from Latin to Engiish this might read Emor Aynesworth -------- of Bury and Anna ------

But what does pochianus mean?  Elsewhere in the Record pochie is used (eg pochie de Leigh).  I guessed parishioner but there were other examples where the 'pochianus' was omitted and it read simply 'de Leigh'.

The Cl after Anna.  Is this likely to be the first two letters of her surname?

Lancashire / Mill Bank, Rochdale
« on: Saturday 10 October 09 12:55 BST (UK)  »
Could anyone tell me, please. where Mill Bank was in the Township of Butterworth, Rochdale?

Sarah Ainsworth of that address married Frederick Law in 1838.  Her father was Edward Ainsworth.  Up to 1827 they had lived at Wicken Hall at Ogden when Edward sold it.

Lancashire / Emer Ainsworth - Bury
« on: Friday 31 July 09 16:43 BST (UK)  »
I am seeking, if possible, details from a possible grave/memorial  inside the church of St. Mary's, Bury.

I have my family of Ainsworth's back to an Amor Ainsworth who was born c1720. He died and was buried at Ogden Chapel (near Newhey) in 1798.

Family folklore has it that there is a link to Harrison Ainsworth, the Lancashire novelist.
There is in the Transactions of Lancashire & Cheshire Antiquarian Society   Vol xxvii (27) of 1910 a biography and pedigree called Harrison Ainsworth's Paternal Ancestors.

In a footnote it records that Emer or Emor Ainsworth was a Churchwarden at Bury and was buried on 25th April 1624.  He left a Will shortly before he died naming his sons and also his grandson - also Emer.  He (grandfather) was apparently buried in the church.

I know apparently when he died but wondered whether any memorial might give any age/date information about his family.  Can anyone help, please?

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Saddleworth Churchyard - Ainsworth
« on: Tuesday 24 March 09 17:19 GMT (UK)  »
I have taken  relevant details from the published book of the Saddleworth Parish Registers relating to the Ainsworth / Aynesworth family and these are 17th century entries. Actually 9 Ainsworths and 2 Gartsides.   But no ages are shown.

Does anybody know, please,  if the MI's for Saddleworth have been published and made available for sale?

My attempts at googling suggest not.

Stirlingshire / Charles Hogg / Agnes Cochrane
« on: Monday 09 February 09 19:47 GMT (UK)  »
This is really a continuation of the Logie thread.

Charles Hogg and Agnes Cochrane lived at South Broomage Toll in the parish of Larbert in 1851.  Their ages were respectively 70 and 61.  I cannot find either in the Death records on ScotlandsPeople (ie 1855 onwards) nor in 1861 Census.

Is there any record of either / both , please, on a memorial inscription locally?
