The Common Room / Re: Have you ever..felt a little uncomfortable..

Hi

For my in depth research I have basically started from my grandparents who were all born in the 1870s. I have bare bones for my parents, uncles and aunts (all deceased) and myself who is the only living person in my tree. This means that if I find anything of a delicate nature there is at least one clear generation between that and the living. Others may disagree with my approach but as far as I'm concerned it is my tree so I will do it my way.

We may be aware of, or we may discover whilst researching, sensitive information from more recent times and the question is what do we do about it. In my case I do nothing but others will argue that it should be included. I'm sure that many times it may not be an issue because it turns out everybody knew but what if they didn't? How will people directly impacted behave? Do we have a right to potentially turn other peoples lives upside down? I say no.

Hi

The surname appears to be Bradbury not Bradley, it is going to be difficult to identify him without more information.

Even in the 21st century the tyranny of distance between localities throughout the continent of Australia has significant impact on the time it takes for a person to get to their local doctor, dentist, hospital (measure this in several hours in the car in each direction).  In the larger states and in the Northern Territory, the tyranny of distance has a greater impact on those who live and work in remote locations.

Do you have Flying Vicars out there too, majm?   :)

There is at least one flying padre out of Broken Hill (I think he is still flying) and there may be others. Also Fly In, Fly Out ministers visit various mines in Western Australia. Politicians in outback electorates often fly around their electorate as they can be huge. One West Australian Federal Electorate is more than 7 times the area of Great Britain.

World War Two / Re: UK Service records WW2 - Jacobs

Hi

The 1939 Register may not be of help, according to the preview '2 more people who are officially closed' which usually means they were born after 1915 and haven't been recorded as deceased. If James was in the military then I believe he would not be on the Register unless home on leave.

WW2 Service Records are still held by the MOD, did James survive the war?

My only real interest in this is that it will allow me to sync my RootsMagic database with an Ancestry tree, while maintaining my RM database as the source of all truth.

I don't care where my source material comes from!

You do know that if you upload images to Ancestry and you have obtained them from another source then it is likely those images are subject to copyright and you should get permission, preferably in writing, to do so

Hi

Do you mean the more recent GRO Indexes? If so they are available at several libraries in England but I'm not sure whether the GRO itself is one.

I'm still amazed at Andy's inspiration.  ??? :)  There aren't any clues in Roxie's profile or previous posts and when I checked the assisted passage migration list from UK in 1965 there were 13,201 migrants  :o :o

What am I missing?   (be kind now  :) )

I would love to say it was brilliant sleuthing but I'm afraid I can't, as Merlin says one of the topics originally had his name and whilst it didn't include his middle names it was enough to find him on The National Archives website.

Hi

If the person you are looking for is M.W.G.J. and is a plumber then he is on the 1980 NSW Electoral Roll on Ancestry in Glebe, (Sydney). There is nobody else with the same surname at that address.

Given that he would only be 70 he could still be alive, perhaps someone with knowledge of Sydney newspapers could advise if any of them have a "Desperately Seeking" column that you can put a notice in.
