Hi Jennifer,

Thanks for the input. Have attached a pic of the first page of the bible. As you can see the date for Percy(?) and Gladis(?) looks like 1837. There is a 34 before Gladises entry. There is also some writing that I cant decifer that looks similar towards the top of the page above Gertrudes entry. The bible is dated 1840 so they were added afterwards it seems. Any ideas would be welcome!

Hi Kim and Karen

First of all really sorry in the delay answering these posts. I know how frustrating it is when you get really excited about a link and no one anwers! - I've had this happen to me many times on roots chat and should know better than to leave it so long between logging on!

Rose Martha, last of the children of William Faulkner was married to John Theodore Moore, my husbands uncle. she died in 2002. When his Uncle John died there was no home for the bible as they had no children and we didnt know anything of Roses family ( in fact we didnt even know her as Rose as she was always cally Aunty Tommy!)

There is no more info in the bible other than I have already posted and although as a genealogy enthusiast I have done a little research we know little about her family. Ive found them in the 1911 and 1901 census, and William as a boarder in 1891 but havent had time to go back further or to find the mysterious Percy Howgo or Gladis b. 1837.

it seems that you both are great nieces of Rose!

I have put some photos of the bible in these posts

Again sorry for the delay

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Re: Social history of Moravians at Fulneck?

Hi Brian and Galium,

Thanks for the info and tips. I have searched the Calverley records and found relevant marriages and burials but as I said no baptisms unfortunately. It does state that the Moravian records are not complete- this may be why.

I contacted the minister some days ago but have not heard anything yet. Its not really records I'm after though really its more a social history of Moravian comunities and how the religion affected their everyday lives. I might search Gale newspapers next to see if i find any nugggets!

Hi

Thanks very much for the link. It gives some insight into the sect. I will have to do some more digging about 'the lot' which sseems to be important. There seemed to be very little marrying outside the church with the same names occuring again and again!

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Social history of Moravians at Fulneck?
« on: Saturday 10 September 11 10:13 BST (UK)  »
Hi,
My elderly neighbour ancestors attended the Moravian church at Fulneck. (Surnames Gaunt, Dufton) I am trying to find out for her how this would have affected their lives. I can find a lot of info (google books etc ) on the history of the church but very little social history.

Their marriages and burials were all conducted at Anglican churches, which I assume was usual. I havent found any baptisms on the Calverley site for them either at the Moravian or parish churches. They lived in Robin Lane and Sharps Terrace about 1 mile north of the settlement and were  (of course!) in the woollen trade.

One had an illegitimate baby...how would this have been received?

Oh and added to that the only John Barnard I can find born Writtle about 1837 in 1891 was in Wormwood Scrubs....typical!

No, I dont know if he'd been in the army.. I havent found him in 1871  (John Barnard born about 1837, Writtle Essex) so he may have been in the army, however in 1876 he  married  Eliza Walker in Bermondsey and was listed as a "labourer"...(Eliza was his brother William's wife's sister and came from Enfield - I dont really know how they came to be in Bermondsey!)
