« on: Tuesday 13 March 07 21:22 GMT (UK)  »
I am going to send this quickly as I am having a lot of trouble with my broadband supplier TALK TALK - that's a joke.

Does anyone have any idea where my gt. grandmother was born. Elizabeth Merrick born c. 1857 in Leidle, Staffordshire. She ultimately married my gt. grandfather Elijah Turner.

Hoping to hear from someone about this.

I don't know if anyone can help me.
I have an Elizabeth Merrick (my gt. grandmother) who was born c. 1857. On one census record (apologies but I can't remember which one) she is down as being born in "Leidle" Staffordshire. Can anyone have a guess at what this means please? She married ultimately married an Elijah Turner.

Ireland / McColville Northern Ireland
« on: Saturday 10 March 07 22:09 GMT (UK)  »
Has anyone any records of the surname McColville in Northern Ireland pre 1820? My gt.x3 grandmother was a Helen McColville married to a John Williamson in Northern Ireland. I have no other information at all about this marriage except their son was also a John Williamson and was my gt.x2 grandfather. I understand that many Irish records were burnt in the Irish Uprising in Dublin in 1912??? Not sure if I have got this quite right so apologies.

My grandmother's birth certificate states: Helen Mann Williamson born 1883 to Jane Williamson (mother) illegitimate. Can anyone suggest what the MANN might mean?

Is anyone researching their Marshall ancestors who were travelling tinsmiths in Dumfries and Galloway and Ayrshire? My interests were in Creetown c1841/51 and then in Stoneykirk, nr. Stranraer. I should be pleased to hear from you.

Kirkcudbrightshire / Creetown Marshalls
« on: Tuesday 06 March 07 20:56 GMT (UK)  »
I have found my Marshall ancestors who were tinklers/gypsies living at Creetown Carpet Mill in 1851. Does anyone know what happened to them after that time? They were down as tinsmiths on the census form and were all born in a different location. Any information would be appreciated.
