Northumberland / REDPATH (Weldon House, Brinkburn, Felton, Longhorsely)
« on: Friday 20 July 07 17:04 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for my 3xgt grandfather JOHN REDPATH who gave his birthplace as Weldon House in 1841 census. he was born around 1792 and by 1841 was a farm steward at Reedsford Kirknewton  . He had several children all born in the area around Crookham where they were baptised in the  Presbyterian Church from 1817 onwards. He died in 1854 at his daughters residence just outside Morpeth (buried at Kirknewton). His wife was Jane Tait born Alnwick who, after his death,  is listed as a farmer at Hetton  Coal Houses, near Chatton. She died in 1877 at Hetton North Farm.

I am trying to find
                            John Redpath's baptism

                            His marriage to Jane Tait

Any other information about his parents

Weldon House is now demolished but stood between High and Low Weldon to the west of Felton. I have looked in all the neighbouring parishes but can't find anything. There are numerous Redpaths further north than his birthplace but I can't find a link. Is he more likely to be connected with the Rothbury, Thropton Redpaths?

Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated!

If you think you might be connected with my Redpaths, I can share a great deal of info about later years with you!

Northumberland / WILLIAM LANDLESS
« on: Sunday 01 July 07 15:43 BST (UK)  »
I am looking for the burial place of William Landless of Easington, BELFORD, who had a distinguished career as a naval officer, fighting at Trafalgar where he earned prize money. he died in  Jan1827 but I have had no luck in searching burial registers and MI's in Belford and environs around this time. There is one at Alnwick in Feb 1827 but he appears to be married to a  different woman.

Can anyone help with his burial place or his family and background at Easington?

Northumberland / GLASS family
« on: Sunday 01 July 07 15:31 BST (UK)  »

I am looking for the marriage of ROBERT GLASS  and ANN CUMMIN whose marriage banns were called at Carham, North Northumberland, in 1767 although the actual marriage did not take place there.
Has anyone come across this marriage or these names  in another parish or even over the Border?

Does anyone know of people called GLASS coming down from Scotland to the Borders in the 1700's. There are various GLASS families in Northumberland from very early 1700's but I can't find a connection with mine. my grandad always said "& brothers came down from Scotland...". perhaps he was right.

Would appreciate any siggestions.

Roxburghshire / WILLIAM GLASS
« on: Sunday 01 July 07 14:15 BST (UK)  »

I am searching for info on William Glass who married Agnes Smart in 1813  in Wemyss, Fife). They emigrated to Canada where William must have died as Agnes returned pre 1841 as a widow with children first to Hobkirk, town o' Rule and then settled at Hayhope Farm, Yetholm. As I believe I may be connected to this family I would like any info re William such as date of birth, baptism and why he moved from Wemyss where he was a shepherd at Wemyss Castle. Where did he come from originally?

Can anyone help?

A mystery is that his wife Agnes had a sister Penelope who also married someone called William Glass in 1825 recorded both at Wemyss and Jedburgh. Penelope also moved down to Hobkirk and later settled in Canada with her son and family. Because Agnes and Penelope both raised children over the same period  I think there are 2 Williams and not one!

Fife / GLASS of Wemyss
« on: Sunday 01 July 07 13:32 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find out about people of this name living in Wemyss in 1700's. Has anyone heard of a couple called ROBERT GLASS and ANN CUMMIN (or similar)? They would have married about 1760-70.

I also want to know about WILLIAM GLASS of Wemyss who married Agnes Smart at Wemyss in 1813 and WILLIAM GLASS of WEMYSS  who married Penelope Smart, her sister, at Wemyss in 1825 also recored at Jedburgh earlier in 1825.

I have all the records of GLASS in Wemyss from about 1830 but can't find anything from late 1700s which would take me further back.

Can anyone help?
