RTL, I agree with Viktoria, I suffer with a double whammy, both underactive Thyroid and Pernicious Anaemia, I  know only too well how  they both drag one down. You sound as if you need a thorough investigative  medical, if necessary ask for a second opinion and don't take no for an answer.

If they had not answered the call to arms, the alternative result would have been unimaginable horror.

Back in those days communication was slow, only news reports on the radio and newsreels in the cinema, so those at home were kept in a certain amount of ignorance. Unlike today when we get almost instant films of the horrors of war.

I think most men were reluctant heroes, many didn’t want to talk about their experiences to their families, not wanting to tell them of the horrors they saw and endured. As the years went by I think they found some kind of relief going over their experiences with old comrades who understood.

I have not had this problem but I find the Topic Replies are arriving late.  Last night I cleared my in-box about 23.00, this morning there were five replies from earlier times, back to 17.00.

This is also happening to me.

I have also had the same problem as Cas, getting the same message when trying to access my profile.

What a lovely picture, medals worn with pride and that is how it should be, sadly my father in law didn't apply  for his medals, I have no  Idea why but I find that incredibly sad.

LM

LM,  if you know what medals your father-in-law was entitled to you can always buy replica medals. Unlike WW1 medals WW2 meals were not routinely stamped with  the name and number on the rim, those you find that are stamped have usually been done by the recipient.

You don’t give any indication as to his nationality, was he Belgian or British, if British have you checked  to see if the death was recorded by the British Consulate. If so you should be able it obtain a British death certificate.

One thing to consider is the circumstances, if the parents divorced, or one of them was widowed and then remarried. If they wanted the new spouse to have equal legal parental rights, the children would be adopted by both the  birth parent and the new spouse.
