Cambridgeshire Lookup Requests / Marriage look up please
« on: Thursday 18 November 10 17:00 GMT (UK)  »
I'm looking for a marriage before 1740 between James Sumpter and Elizabeth (Deere? - online trees give her this name but I've found no evidence, and I'm always dubious when none of them can find the marriage!).

I'd be very grateful for a look-up.

They baptised a couple of children in Caldecote 1740-43, then were in Boxworth 1752-54. Elizabeth was buried in Boxworth in 1754 with James being buried there in 1782, although James and his daughters seem to have lived in Graveley from 1760 where three known daughters married, with two more probable daughters (from the 1744-51 gap?) also marrying in Graveley.

Many thanks in advance

Bedfordshire Completed Look ups / COMPLETED Wilstead PR transcript - marriage LITCHFIELD
« on: Wednesday 29 September 10 15:05 BST (UK)  »
An extracted entry at Wilstead shows a marriage on 12 Oct 1804 between Elizabeth NOTT and James LITCHFIELD.

Elizabeth was from Everton (Evington in 1861) and I believe James was from Elstow.

If anyone has access to Wilstead transcript I'd be grateful to know if a parish of residence is shown.

James was my 4xg great uncle, so was a close relative compared to some of my requests!

Many thanks

Bedfordshire Completed Look ups / COMPLETED Ampthill PR transcript
« on: Saturday 25 September 10 07:30 BST (UK)  »
Various member submissions, but no extracted entry, show a marriage in Ampthill of Sarah RAYNES and Tubal Cain Lymley DYER on 16 Feb 1784

If anyone has access to the transcript does the marriage exist? I suspect Sarah was a widow as I think she was née Sarah REDMAN from Houghton Conquest

Also was the Tubal etc DYER who was buried on 10 Dec 1793 an adult, ie did he have an occupation, as opposed to the TCL Dyer who was baptised on 6 June 1790

Sarah DYER married William STAPLETON in Ampthill on 20 Oct 1795 (extracted). I'm sure from her father's will that she was Sarah Redman.

Many thanks

Bedfordshire Completed Look ups / COMPLETED Houghton Conquest transcript - LITCHFIELD

The IGI has a member submission for a marriage at Houghton Conquest on 11 Dec 1795 between William REDMAN and Ann LITCHFIELD.

If anyone has access to the transcript I'd be very grateful for confirmation that this is a real marriage

I'm a bit concerned about it as Ann Litchfield born 1775, was the illegitimate daughter, no father mentioned as far as I can tell, of Elizabeth Litchfield, who had four other illegitimate children, two either side of Ann's birth, by John Redman, for whom she was the housekeeper according to his will where he left her six bob a week "in consideration of her good Services to me". And John Redman was the father of William, which if my suspicions are correct would make William and Ann half siblings. Having said that, Ann was the only one of the five where the father isn't specifically named as John Redman.

Many thanks in advance

Bedfordshire Completed Look ups / COMPLETED 1750 census of Bolnhurst
« on: Thursday 05 August 10 19:54 BST (UK)  »
In 1750, the Rev John Jones, Rector of Bolnhurst, made a schedule of heads of households, religious denomination, landlord, & size of household. One of the non-conformists was John Saby, farmer, of Backenhoe, 8 in household. This was taken from the transcription of Keysoe Baptist church book, but it gave only the non-conformist families.

BLARS has advised me that the original census is held at Dr Williams' Library, but they have a photocopy under reference CRT 130 BOL 5.

What I'm hoping to find, apart from John Sabey, is Joseph Sabey, although it's probable that he wasn't a head of household so won't appear (he was a servant in Bolnhurst when he married in 1751)

If anyone is going anywhere near Blars in the next couple of weeks I'd be very grateful for a look up for any Sabeys in this census. I'm going to crack this family if it kills me!

Many thanks in advance

Bedfordshire Completed Look ups / COMPLETED Southill PR lookup please
« on: Saturday 24 July 10 19:43 BST (UK)  »
The NBI shows a burial at Southill on 1 Feb 1823 of George Rooke, infant. Problem is that there are two possible Georges that it could have been.

If someone is going anywhere near the Records Office, could they kindly have a quick look at the Southill film to see if George's parents are mentioned please? Alexander & Mary; William & Ann. I don't mind which!

Also (there's always an also!) there's a burial of Ann Rook age 24 on 10 Feb 1822. Was she described as wife of William?

Many thanks in advance

Cambridgeshire Lookup Requests / Lt Gransden PR/Baptism Index Look up - WRIGHT
« on: Tuesday 29 June 10 08:57 BST (UK)  »
I'd be very grateful if anyone who has access to either of the above could check for the baptisms of Thomas Wright, which according to a member submission on the IGI took place on 18 Dec 1791, and of Philip Wright said to have been on 29 Nov 1788

Thomas was the second husband of my 3xg grandmother, and was possibly the father of her base born daughter Jane, my 2xg grandmother. Jane was born 1822/3, two years after her mother's first husband died, and when baptised on 3 July 1826, a year after her mother married Thomas Wright, the entry states "Jane Wright base born daughter of Ann Sparkes now Wright of Little Gransden"

Many thanks in advance

Harriet Scrimshaw was born in Leverington c1836/8, but doesn't appear on the online Cambs Baptism Index 1801-37. If anyone has the transcription, or Cambs Baptism Index I'd be very grateful for a look up for Harriet - she's not the one baptised in Newton in 1833 - who may have been illegitimate. She had a possible younger brother William who was 3 in 1841 - can he be found in the Index please?

Many thanks in advance

David
