Armed Forces / Will for soldier died in India in 1857
« on: Tuesday 26 November 19 11:27 GMT (UK)  »
Should probate/administration for a will of a soldier who died in India in 1857 be on the https://www.gov.uk/search-will-probate site? I cannot find one for the soldier I am interested in - no doubt he didn't write one, but just wondered if it would have been registered in India; if so where could I look?

Thanks for any help.

Armed Forces Resources / Location on Muster Lists
« on: Thursday 18 July 19 12:08 BST (UK)  »
I have an ancestor William Trow(u)sdale/Trow(u)sdell born Gilling, Yorkshire in 1785 who enlisted in the 2nd Life Guards in 1804; he was discharged in 1814 having been 'ruptured in Portugal'. He married in 1805 & had children baptised, all in Marylebone, in 1806, 1808, 1811 & 1813.

Ancestry has the Muster Lists for the 2nd Life Guards, which I understand to be a reserve regiment, for 1808 onwards, with William on them. I have downloaded them & tried looking at the first & last page of each but cannot see where the unit was at the time. Should the location be on the List or am I missing something - they all seem to have been signed off at Hyde Park. How do I find out exactly when William was in Portugal?

Thanks for any help.

Relatives sought of Sidney Roberts 1898, John Rogers 1876, Albert Jones 1897 & Thomas Parker 1895.

I know Sandra & others do an amazing job bringing these men to our attention & researching them but I can't find any of their names in a rootschat search, sorry if I have duplicated a post.

I have 19 SP credits about to expire on 15 Mar; can do downloads up to that value - first come first served  ;) but you'll have to know the record is there as I haven't got time for searching.
