PS. Cecile in Thornhill would be Ness' aunt. I believe that my dad had a cousin Cecile who was possibly the same age or younger than he was ... I may even have a photo. Also have other family photos including one or two of Andrew and Leah. L

Hello Cousin, perhaps we should get down to a private message. The moderation does not allow for discussion regarding the living on this site.
No I am not one of Leah's... I don't know that branch of the family except that I think I attended a wedding in Cowdenbeath or Crossgates as a child.
Yes you're right I missed (Jokey) Uncle John from the list. I remember him living in Cowdenbeath with Anne and Jim. (Did Leah also share their home?) I have a vague memory of going to Turnhouse with my Dad to collect him on his return from a visit to Switzerland.
Am intirigued to have some idea which cousin I am communicating with? Best wishes for 2015. L

Hello, Fiona and I have been researching my family history. Thank you for your reply.
We have established Leah had a sister Cecile who also lived in Scotland, in the Deanston/Thornhill area. Cecile married a farmer called William Goodwin. We have identified 9 of  Leah's offspring that survived childhood and that one died before the 1911 census (we don't have a record of any given name for the deceased child). The children were Andrew Charles Cecil and James. Anne (Annie) Jean Leah and Agnes (Ness). Leah was also my great grandmother.
Leah's mother's maiden name was almost certainly Delessert. Leah is classified as British by dint of her parentage, which is curious as her birth place is given as Switzerland. Delessert or de Lessert is possibly a Huguenot surname but we haven't any idea beyond that. Nor do we know of an extant connection with Switzerland, although Ness did live and work there for a period, we understand. can you shed any light? Look forward to hearing from you. L.

My father died on Christmas Day 2013.  He served in the Royal Navy during WW2.   At the end of the war his ship, HMS Pioneer, took on board a party of small children which they picked up in Singapore and were to take to Sidney Harbour, Australia.   During the voyage the crew gave a party for the children.   All his life dad wondered what had become of the boys.   He had a photograph of some of the boys which he would take out of his photograph album and ask "what happened to those kids".  It seemed to worry him.    I came across the photograph the other day and now find myself asking "What happened to those boys".   It's a big ask I know.   If anyone knows I can attach the picture later.  I guess this one may be mission impossible.
