Searching for possible refs to John in Australia!

All I know is that he was born in 1877 in Barrow in Furness, Lancashire, England - son of Samuel and Marlow Gribble.

He was in the army (Shropshire Light Infantry) from 1895 and was discharged at his own request in 1913, Victoria Barracks, Melbourne Australia

I have no sign of him since then. Did he stay in Australia?
Back in the UK, he had a wife, Priscilla and a daughter, Cherry Marlo L(avinia?); located on the 1911 census for Portsmouth

Keen to find out more about Priscilla who was born around 1878 and baptised on 10 Mar 1878, Ryde, Isle of Wight.

My main interest is in her husband, John Gribble.

He was a soldier, Shropshire Light Infantry (joined 1895), He married Priscilla in 1898 (Portsmouth) and had a daughter in 1899 called Cherry Marlo L (prob Lavinia, she was prob named after his female relatives).

I have located Priscilla and Cherry on the 1911 census for Portsmouth but there is no sign of John. I was initially told some years ago that he was killed during WW1 but only today discovered his WW1 Pension record. He left the army in 1913, in Melbourn Australia.

Did he stay there?
Did wife and daughter join him or were they 'abandoned?

questions, questions

It seems to be my lucky day!!

 :D ;D

Thanks so much!! Some of the inof I had but putting it all togtehr at ast is amazing. The wonders of the web

Mary Bugg nee Thorpe died in Rawmarsh, Rotherham in 1866 - I also found her in Rotherham Workhouse on the 1861 census.

She married William Rowe, according to the 1851 census fr rawmarsh but I cannot find a ref for this marriage. He died in 1855. Also with them in 1851 was Eli Bugg, her son his wife Mary and a child Reuben age 1.

Eli, like so many in his family and in Rawmarsh, died a year later in the pit disaster at Warren vale, Rotherham (in the notes online he is named Eli Bigg!)

Reuben died in 1866

will add to my notes using your info and get back to you!! Thanks again
I can't find Eli on the 1841 census or Reuben on the 1861

Wow

I'm looking for a William Rowe - but an earlier one.

He married Mary Bugg (a widow, nee Thorpe) possibly in Rawmarsh, Rotherham or even in South Normanton, derbyshire) between 1827 and 1851

I also need his death - before 1861- and her death date (she was in Rotherham workhouse on the 1861 census)
