Yorkshire (East Riding & York) Lookup Requests / William Arthur Hodgson
« on: Wednesday 29 September 21 11:23 BST (UK)  »
Where was William Arthur Hodgson in 1891 and 1901?
He was born in Hull c.1862 and by 1881 he was living with his parents and working as a cabinet maker.  He next turns up marrying Jane Anne Harper in 1884, and in February 1901 there's a bankruptcy notice in the Edinburgh Gazette which lists him as a cabinet maker living at 15 North Walls and Perrett St, Hull.  Then he turns up in 1911 as a licensed victualler at 131 Witham.
But where was he on the missing censuses?  To add to the confusion there's a William G Hodgson but it's not him.  Any help appreciated.

The Common Room / Robert Brock in 1851
« on: Monday 20 September 21 10:34 BST (UK)  »
Given the gaps in the 1851 census this is possibly a vain hope, but perhaps someone could find him.
Robert Brock was born in Stainforth near Doncaster c.1814.  I can first pick him up in 1861 when he is master of a Humber keel called "Carrier" moored in the Old Harbour in Hull.  Ten years later he is on a keel in the Stainforth canal with his wife Mary (born in Beverley).  It would be very useful to find him earlier.

Yorkshire (East Riding & York) Lookup Requests / Thomas Giles in 1862
« on: Saturday 04 September 21 10:10 BST (UK)  »
I wonder if someone with a subscription to the BNA or similar could look something up for me.  I know that in 1862 Thomas Giles, a builder, appeared at Hull Police Court with allegations of breaching the Builders Act, and that there were reports in the local papers.  Your help would be appreciated.

Yorkshire (East Riding & York) / Hull centenarian
« on: Thursday 05 August 21 10:13 BST (UK)  »
I'm frustrated by the fact that the Hull Daily Mail is not digitised in the 1970s and I can't go to the Hull History Centre to look them up.  Sarah Mary Cluderay died in the 1st quarter of 1972 aged 100.  I need to know where she was living at the time of her death.  If she was still officially a resident of the Charterhouse it would make her our only known centenarian.  I'm hopeful that the Mail would have given her death, or her birthday the previous September 12th, a write-up.  Any help gratefully received.

Try this from the 1891 census.  I can read "house" and "coffee" but not much else.  Can anyone decipher it, please?
