Hi

I've found Alfred Tunnicliffe [born circa 1878 South Stockton Yorkshire] in the census records of 1881 & 1891 living in Thornaby] with his parents Alfred & Eliza. Then nothing. Have tried free BMD and can't find a death that fits. Any ideas?

Hi

I'm stuck and need advice. Here's what I know:
William Tunnicliffe was born circa 1823 in Barton Staffordshire and married Elizabeth [born around 1820 in Barton Staffordshire]. They may be the ones who married in 1843 in Eccleshall Staffordshire [don't know the county at all]. They had 3 kids born in West Bromwich Alfred [1844], Charles [1847]; Hannah [1851].

William & family are in the 1851 Census. The 1861 census show Elizabeth as a widow. I checked free BMD but haven't a clue what region William's death would have been in [I must reiterate I haven't a clue about places in Staffordshire]. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Hi

I've got a couple of grandchildren that magically appear on census records for my great-great grandparents [Robert & Elizabeth Harrison of Redmarshall] and I've no idea who their parent/s are.

Edith born around 1880 in Stockton appears in the 1881 & 1891 records. She disappears by the 1901 census [I figure she got married but there's over 30 possibles so I'll have to do a lot more research to find out her married name].

Then there's Bertram born circa 1884 in Redmarshall who comes in at the 1891 census. By 1901 he's a lodger [along with his uncle, Thomas] at Whitton Durham.

I know I'll probably have to order birth certificates for them to find out where they fit but I thought I'd throw it out there to you knowledgeable people in the hope you can save me some expense [I'm currently awaiting 7 other certificates at the moment and the idea of making budgie stew is becoming very tempting].

Hi

What are my options in regard to tracking down the results of a coronial inquest held in Leeds on the 17th March 1936?

Hi

Just wondering if anyone knows if there's a register of midwives who were working in the Leeds area in the mid 1930s.

Hi
I'm trying to find out what happened to three of my grand-father's brothers. They disappear from UK records in the 1880s-1890s and I wonder if they emigrated to your part of the world.

On http://www.castlegarden.org/index.html there are a number of possibilities arriving at Castle Garden in the right time frame but the information there is too general to pin down specifics.

Here's what I know:

Thomas Smith - born around 1858 Redworth Durham. He shows up on English census records for 1861 & 1871. After that who knows?

Christopher Smith - born around 1862 Middridge Durham.  He shows up on English census records for 1871 & 1881 Then just like that he's gone.

Joseph Smith -  born around 1855 Redworth Durham. He shows up on English census records for 1861; 1871 & 1881. Then he too disappears into the twilight zone.

Any suggestions / assistance would be much appreciated.

Northumberland / The Traill's gone cold
« on: Monday 14 May 07 06:44 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I'm trying to track the family of James Traill after 1891.
In 1891 they were living at 39 Victoria Street Walker [Newcastle] Northumberland. They consisted of the following:

James Drever Gray Traill - born 1850 in Kirkwall And St. Ola Orkney Scotland;

Margaret Traill [nee Smith] - born 1860 in Middridge Durham;

and Ellen [Eleanor Ann] Traill - born 1886 in Newcastle Upon Tyne.

Where did they go after that? Can't find any specific data on Free BMD other than what I know. Could they have emigrated? If so where?

Hi
I'm trying to find out what happened to three of my grand-father's brothers.

Thomas Smith - born around 1858 Redworth Durham - in 1861 & 1871 he's living in Middridge Durham [1871 shows him as a coal sorter at the pit]. After that who knows.

Christopher Smith - born around 1862 Middridge Durham - in 1871 he's also living in Middridge. In 1881 he's at High Street Holtby Grange Or Highfield House Yorkshire [shown born at Miderage]. Then again he's gone.

Joseph Smith -  born around 1855 Redworth Durham - in 1861 he's still in Middridge; in 1871 he's at Bottom House Cockerton as a farm labourer; and in 1881 he's at Green Fold Farm as a farm labourer. Then he too disappears into the twilight zone.

Any ideas?

The search continues.

Hi
I've found my great-grandfather James Smith [born around 1860 in Middridge Durham] in the 1861 Census at Middridge; in the 1871 census at Middridge; in the 1891 Census at East Hetton; and the 1901 Census at in Barton Yorkshire.
The question is where was he in 1881. Any ideas?
