Shropshire / Sarah Richards [1805-1888]
« on: Monday 24 August 09 06:10 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I'm trying to establish the parentage of Sarah Richards - census information indicates she was born in Madeley Wood circa 1803. Can't seem to pinpoint her on the IGI - anybody got any suggestions about where I go online from here.

Hi

I've just found burial details on the Stockton Roots site for my great grandmother [Elizabeth Emma Tait] and my great-great grandmother [Isabella Tait]. They are interred at the Oxbridge Lane Cemetery.

The site doesn't list amy other relevant Tait's buried there so I was wondering how do I go about finding out if they are in a grave with their respective spouses?

I have a similar problem with Thornaby Cemetery where my great grandfather [Alfred Tunnicliffe] was laid to rest.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi

Just realised I posted a topic on the Worcestershire strand of RootChat that I should have put on the Warwickshire strand.

Do I just close it and redo it or can it be moved between boards?

Worcestershire / Completed: William or Westley Richards
« on: Friday 25 July 08 04:58 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I'm researching Caroline Richards [born 8/2/1817 daughter of William Westley Richards and his wife Ann]

I'm trying to work out how to connect the following:

Westley Richards [born circa 1791], gunmaker: - living at Chads Lane Birmingham in 1841; living at Ashfield House Hagley Road Edgbaston in 1851;

and

William Richards [born circa 1791], gunmaker: - living at Lancaster Street Birmingham in 1841; living at Ashfield House Hagley Road Edgbaston in 1851;

I've tried the IGI and have come up with William Westley Richards christened 30/11/1789 Saint Phillips, Birmingham, Warwick, England [son of Theophilus & Mary] and William Richards christened 06/10/1789 Saint Phillips, Birmingham, Warwick, England [son of Mary].

Do I put 2 and 2 together and assume William Westley Richards was known as Westley Richards and the other William who married a Rebecca Astley was William Westley's cousin?

Any ideas?

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Walmsley-Smith

Hi

I'm trying to find descendants of Benjamin Walmsley [born 1896] and Emily C. Smith [born  1896]. There marriage was registered at North Bierley in 1922.

They had the following children:

Gladys A Walmsley [born 1923] who I believe married a William Moffatt at St Wilfred Calverley in 1945.

Marjorie Walmsley [1926 - 1987] who I believe married a George Seed [1916-1988] at Leeds Registered Building in 1949.

James Walmsley [born 1928]

Emmeline Walmsley [1930-1931]

Thanks

Hi

I'm sure my question has been asked time and time again but I've got to ask it.

Is there a site that you can search for Yorkshire birth records when you know both the family name and the mother's maiden name that will take you straight to the specific records and not just the index pages?

I know I can do it with free BMD but the records are post 1930 and pre 1983 so they've not been transcribed yet [as is the case with the YorkshireBMD records].

Also [again for post 1930 and pre 1983] other BMD records where you know the district - the ones I'm seeking are registered in North Bierley.

Yorkshire (North Riding) Lookup Requests / Ann Wade - 1841 Census
« on: Wednesday 06 June 07 13:48 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I'm hoping someone with a little bit of knowledge of the are my be able to help me identify the correct Ann Wade in the 1841 census.

Here's what I know about her:

She was born circa 1828 in Barton;
her father's name was James;
she married Christopher Smith in Middleton Tyas in 1850.

I've found a James Wade living in Barton in 1841 with his wife and a couple of kids but not Ann.

There's a number of possibilities in the census but I don't know the geography that well so maybe someone out there can steer me in the right direction.

Hi

Okay once again I've done the right thing; I've obtained the marriage certificates for both of my great grandfather's marriages.

William Tait married Susan Green at the Register Office in Guisbrough on the 17th February 1885 [he was 25 years old at the time, a bachelor who was employed as a groom]. His father is identified as Adam Tait, a paper cutter].

William, now a 36 year old widower, married Emma Elizabeth Harrison [my great grandmother] on the 2nd of March 1896 at the Register Office in Stockton. By this time he was a labourer at an engine works. His father is now deceased and is listed as having been a coachman.

William has been a major brickwall in my research as I have yet to find him on any census record.

Now armed with this new information, once again, I boldly go to search the on-line records and, after meandering up the proverbial garden path with a William H. [Henry/Harry] Tait, end up pretty much where I started.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Hi

Okay I've done the right thing; I've obtained the marriage certificate for my great-great grandparents Thomas Bradshaw & Maria Scholey married by at the parish church in Leeds on April 12 1857 [witnessed by Joseph & Ann Armitage].

Maria has been one of the many brickwalls that I've come up against. Census records [1861-1901] show her born in Hunslet around 1937 - the marriage certificate shows her age as 19 so that fits - there appears to be no suitable canidates on Free BDM].

So now I know that her father was Charles Scholey [a band spinner]. Armed with information I boldly go to search the census records for 1851 & 1841 and end up being unable to add to my knowledge of Maria because I can't make the pieces fit.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.
