Hi Tony

This is part of our family.

Ethel is the daughter of Charlotte Lydia Crawforth and Thomas wilson. I discovered their marriage from Beverley records office when i went. They married 28 Nov 1881 at Humbleton, Yorkshire. Charlotte died in 1894

I have sent you a Personal Message.

I don't remember being contacted by Susan. If it turns out i have spoken to her i will apologise now as i have spoken to so many people over the years. I do not have much information on John Pownall. This is because it was Mary's third husband who belongs to my tree. If you are new to family tree research i can help with information on how to find out where John was born etc.

As for the PM, i will bear with you till you can read it. There is some info on there that i would rather not put on an open board.

I will have a look through all my files to see exactly what i have on the Pownall's

Best wishes

World War Two / Re: Is this his army number?

Hi Themonsstar

Im sorry but none of his documents mentions any unit or army numbers. The drivers permit which i have posted is the only thing that has information of that kind.

Sorry for taking so long to reply. Not been able to get to the computer.

Thankyou for the information.
Best wishes

Hi Thermonstar

I thought you were given your army number when you were enlisted or started your national service? I know my son had his army number before his date of enlistment (Royal Artillery), but it might not have worked that way during the war.

I have a few dates. His medical for entry was 13/11/1942 and his Injections/Training is signed December 1942. His first privaledged warrant pass is dated March 1943.

It also has written in it AF W3149? Completed 11th Jan 1946 ( i am presuming this is the date he left the army)

Would he have gone without an army number until September of 1943?

Best wishes

Hi Atom12

It was brilliant me finding this little piece of information. Can you imagine how many William Coopers there were who was in the Royal Engineers in WW2?

I have been searching for some extra info for ages. I was applying for his records last year until i phoned them and found out how difficult it would be.

As i have already posted, i had copies of his service book but pages missing unfortunately. His stuff from his shed migrated to my shed after he passed away, It wasn't untill much later that i discovered it in the tin of nails.

At last i can send for his service history. Presuming it still exists. I dont know how much information they can give me but can but try.

Best wishes and Thanks again scrimnet for conformation of his number

The Common Room / Re: Advice needed
« on: Friday 29 February 08 18:16 GMT (UK)  »
What is more fustrating is that the Surname is quite rare in this county, so from the information he has listed ie:-
my baby's full name year of birth, year of death, place, my husbands surname and my maiden name.

From this anyone can find the reference in the GRO and find my full name/ husbands name and our marriage, etc. It does make it worse him having my sons death on there. Unfortunately he died of Cot Death aged 8 weeks.

Up tp now "he" still hasnt replied to me. I have sent him an email telling him to remove the information or else.

Thankyou to all who have replied. I will post here what happens.
Best wishes to all
Pauline

Thankyou Scrimnet

I knew he was in the Royal Engineers long ago but that was the only information that i had until i found this. You will never believe where i found it! In a bucket of rusty nails out of his shed!

I also have his service book, but i think some pages must be missing. It doesn't list his army number or his regiment. It does list his training ( not that i can understand much of it). It also lists his leave and injections.
He was also awarded two medals which are also listed in 1945. It does say he was deployed to NW Europe on 8th June 1944.

Thankyou for answering my message. I can now get his full service records.
Best wishes
