Belford is near Alnwick in Northumberland and there are two Bridgets born 1847 registered in Alnwick...Bridget Conlon and Bridget Moran. June

The problem with that is that Belford is a Registration district in its own right and therefore these Bridget's can be ruled out.

Hi
I have several Selby Douglas's in my family, the first appears apparently from nowhere (His father is called John) born 1824 in Tweedmouth, his son Selby was born at Togston in 1850, his grandson Selby was born 1872 in Broomhill and finally (sofar) his Great Grandson Selby born 1898 in Chevington.  There was a second Grandson of Selby (b 1850) who was also called Selby b.1898 in Chevington, but this one was the son of William Douglas.

Oh boy this  gets confusing.  I was wondering if there might be a link to your Selby, which is not that common a name and as you can see it was very prevelent in my Douglas(s) line.  I believe that John Douglas must have had a relation called Selby most likely a father and possibly a brother - could this be your Selby ? .

Hi Wendy,
Many people researching in Northumberland will have these family, could you give us an indication of the timescales or better yet some specific names.

I have a number of Blain's myself, namely Ellen Blain b. 1824, James Blain b. 1849 Norham, Catherine Blain b. 1873 Warrenmill, Belford; James Blain b.1876 Pegswood, James Blain b. 1882 Pegswood and John Robert Blain b.1888 Pegswood.

« on: Thursday 04 May 06 00:04 BST (UK)  »
What can anyone tell me about "Dawson's Building" which was in the Sub-registration district of Walmgate in the 1851 Census.
Is there any information on the Web about it ?

Thanks for the help.
