Aberdeenshire / James Thom & Susan Cordiner
« on: Monday 07 January 08 12:10 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I have traced back one line of the family to James Thom and Susan Cordiner from Peterhead. But that is as far as I can get. Their son is John Hogg Thom (b. 1814, m. 1835, d. 1870).

I was hoping someone maybe knew some more information about relatives before James and Susan?

Hope someone can help,

Regards,

Alan

Hi,

I have just found out that another line of my family tree descends from Ireland. My ancestors John Cook and Mary Ewing were married in Antrim on the 20/5/1855.

I was wondering if anyone could help me find out anymore about them or their relatives? Any info would be great!

Alan

World War Two / Soldier Service Records
« on: Monday 25 June 07 22:29 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I was planning on sending away for my grandads war service records but I was hoping someone might give me some information about what is contained within service records?

I have to complete a SAR form and send this away with a £30 cheque so details on what to expect would be great incase it is not worth £30!

Also, if the SAR form asks me to state clearly what information is required. I just want as much information as possible so does anyone know if I can just state this?

Hope someone can help,

Alan

Hi,

I am trying to trace back the Thom and Cordiner branches of my family tree but I am pretty stuck! Any info or advice would be great!

The info I have so far is that:

James Hogg Thom's (b. 1845, m. 1866, d. 1888) parents were

     John Hogg Thom (b. 1814, m. 1835. d 1870) and
     Mary May (m. 1835)

     John Hogg Thom's parents were

          James Thom and
          Susan Cordiner

I know this isn't a lot but they all seemed to live in Peterhead, Aberdeen.

Hope someone can help.

Renfrewshire / Paisley- James Milton & Margaret Dow
« on: Tuesday 24 April 07 22:49 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I was hoping someone might know something that might allow me to progress further down the line.

I'm lookin for information on James Milton and Margaret Dow (parents of Robert Fleming Milton, m. 31/12/1847, d. 7/8/1891).

I know both james and margaret were dead before 7/8/1891 and the family originated from the county of Renfrew (from paisley and barrhead so far).

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Renfrewshire / James McQueen & Ann Taylor (Paisley?)
« on: Tuesday 24 April 07 00:03 BST (UK)  »
Hi,

I'm really struggling to find out information on James McQueen and Ann Taylor. I know very little about them other that they have a daughter called Maggie McQueen (m. 8/8/1899- husband Joseph Gilogley, d. 11/1/1944- aged 68). I know her parents died before 1899 because they were both shown as deceased on the marraige certificate. All info I have shows they live in paisley.

Any information that people have would be greatly appreciated!

Alan

Banffshire / Shearer & Sellar Families
« on: Friday 20 April 07 21:45 BST (UK)  »
Hi there,

I've came to a bit of a dead end and was hoping someone might have information that could help me?!?!

It all regards the marraige of William Shearer & Elizabeth Sellar (i think on the 21/2/1795)

I've found Elizabeths death certificate (25/2/1865), however her mums name is unknown. Her dad's name is William Sellar. I checked the IGI and came up with a possibility though that was born on the same year, from the same place and the mum is called Isabel Anderson. I was hoping someone might be able to varify that for me?

Secondly, I think I found William shearers death certificate (3/1/1857) but it does not state his wifes name or his parents names!!! I checked the IGI for him and came up with the names of John Shearer and Janet Lesly. I was hoping someone maybe had information on that?! That is a long shot!

Hope someone can help me!

Hi all,

All my research so far has been done using scotlandspeople, family search and of course rootchat but is it possible to view Scottish records for free on ancestry.co.uk? If so, does anyone know how to do this?

Scotland / Hodge Family
« on: Thursday 22 March 07 10:07 GMT (UK)  »
Hey,

I was hoping people might be able to tell me more information about the hodge family within my family tree. Of course I would love to swap information with people. Here is the info I have so far:

James Hodge married Elizabeth ??? (possibly Munro)

They had a child John Hodge (b. around 1863).

John Hodge (living at 11 Logie St, Govan) married Annabella McKenzie (living at 102 White St, Govan) on 17/7/1885 in the District of New Ardrossan

They had children: Matty, Annabelle, Catherine, John, James, Alex and Agnes (my G Grandma)

William Murdoch Elder married my G Grandma Agnes Russel Hodge 1/11/1912 in the District of Partick. At this time they were both living at 7 Robertson Street, Partick

They had children: Agnes, Catherine, Annabelle, Mary Jane, John, Andrew, William Murdoch and Robert

I would love to develop this further if anyone knows anymore!
