US Completed Requests / COMPLETED whereabouts of Grandparents on the U.S. 1910 census
« on: Monday 14 February 05 10:39 GMT (UK)  »
I am trying to find the whereabouts and details of their arrival to the U.S.This is what I know-my Grandfather Herbert Taylor was working in New Bedford as a brakeman for the railroad in 1908.He was born in 1883 in Mossley Lancashire [sometimes this town is shown as Cheshire and Yorkshire because it is a town in three counties],he appeared on the U.K. census for 1901 so I am looking for the years in between for arrival. He was living at 142 Purchase Street New Bedford in 1908.The first info of my Grandmother Agnes Schofield, in the U.S is her name appearing on their marriage lines in November 1910 when they were married in New Bedford in the County of Bristol ,Mass. at St., James Church .Their witnesses were John Lees Whitehead and Maria Knowles . Any info on those persons would be appreciated also. She was born in 1885 may be shown as Staley or Mossley and again in one of the above 3 counties. I do not know  if she arrived in the U.S with Herbert or went at a later date.I am therefore looking at two different boat arrivals. They returned back to England before July 1912[they were present at the death oh Herbert's father].They stayed in the UK had two children then returned to Northampton  ,Mass US in October 1915.My grandmother died in Jan 1916 and again Herbert with his two children Stanley and Olive returned to England.I have all the re-entry details via Ellis Island but would love to obtain any ship details of this return. To finish the story Herbert got killed in the 1918 war.Any info much appreciated.

Dumfriesshire / Can anybody please help me sort out my BOTTOMLEY mess?
« on: Wednesday 02 February 05 23:15 GMT (UK)  »
I have got a William Schofield Bottomley who went to Scotland sometime  around the mid 1840's.The facts I know are - he married a Mary Anderson Halliday in Nov 1849 in Dumfries. They had a daughter Elizabeth.I found the family on the 1851 Dumfries.Sometime in between then and 1859 he was widowed. He had a son John in June 1855 by Grace Caven. He had a son William Bottomley Bottomley in May 1859 by Helen Hornal,in July 1859 he married Margaret Cardy in Dumfries and they had a son David  in December 1859.Before the English 1861 census  they had returned to England and the family then were known as Bottomley Schofields. What I would like to find out is----
On the IGI there is a birth entry for Mary christened at Dumfries on the 5th April 1849 parents William Bottomley and Margaret Briggs could anybody give me the details  of this baptism please? Was there any marriage to Grace Caven? He also acquired a son Charles born 1853 and a daughter Agnes born 1857 I wonder who the mothers are?Any help whatsoever much appreciated.
