Hi
I have just received a marriage cert and wondered if anyone can add to the following
Cert states as follows
26 Feb 1838
George Salt, full age, Bachelor, Labouer father RICHARD Salt ( deceased) occupation Miller.
Esther Shaw full age, Spinster , ---------- father Samuel Shaw, occupation Lab
witness were William Staines ( I think) not easy to read could be Hawes
and Ann Elks
~~~~~~~~----------------------------------
So looks like we have tracked the correct Shaw family line. ( On another thread)
This takes me now to George Salt ............
George Salt according to the 1841 census ( sadly the only one in which he appears) states he was born in Staffordshire 1816 +/-
his occupation was a Miller ( like his Father) Living in Cheadle Staffordshire.
the last child born to Esther and George Salt was Harriet born 1844 and died 1844.( Fact )
so George Salt died between 1844 and 1851 ( when Esther appeared on census as a widow)
Looking at deaths for George Salt in Cheadle between these dates gives the following
1844 June Quarter
1845 Sept quarter
1848 Mar quarter.......cross ref on free reg states aged 8 ( so not him)
1848 Dec quarter
also looked for a baptism for George Salt to father Richard Salt around 1816c
these look to be good poss
George Salt to Richard Salt and Sarah born 13 Jul 1813 abode Fole baptised at St Mary and All Saints Checkley Staffordshire Father Richard Salt a Mill Man ( which would tie in with the Marriage cert for George and Esther) Baptism on ( FREE Reg )
------------------------
also there is a marriage for Richard Salt to Sarah Oakden 2 April 1812 Checkley,Stafford,England
on ( Family Search)
-------------------------
Given that we know Richard Salt had died between 1813 and 26 Feb 1838 ( so NOT on the 1841 census) I looked for a death and on Free Reg ......
Richard Salt aged 73 died at Fole and buried 13 Aug 1823 St Mary and All Saints, Checkley Staffordshire . so born 1750c So looks like George was a very late child for him.
I can't see any other children born to this couple ?
If anyone can add anything more to this either to confirm the death for George Salt ?
or see Sarah Salt on the 1841 or after or indeed a death for her
Or anything on Richard Salt born 1750c and his parents
or anything on Sarah Oakden? and her age etc .
Kind Regards Judi
