Lancashire / Desperate to find
« on: Wednesday 09 April 08 17:48 BST (UK)  »
I've read the thing about searching for living people but I don't actually know if any people I am searching for are alive or dead?

I will try to explain. In June there is a memorial service and plaque dedication to an RAF bomber crew who were killed over Holland in 1943.  The man who has organised this lives in Australia and is desperate to try and trace a living relative of the Liverpool man on the crew so that they can be informed of the service and attend if they want to.

I found someone who knew him and I was informed that his widow eventually remarried.  She had no children from either marriage.

I now have a copy of the marriage certificate and the witnesses on it have the same surnames as the bride and groom.  I assume they were siblings? Without publishing their names, can I do anything to trace these two people (this was 1934) or their descendants? Marriage was in the West Derby district.

Anyone who wants to pm me with their email I will send a copy of the certificate or if you don't like strangers knowing your email, then just ask for the names and I will provide them.

Thanks

Lancashire / Just curious really
« on: Wednesday 27 February 08 15:54 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All,

I've been working in a loft and found a sign which was in pieces.  Fitted it back together like a jigsaw and it said, J Broadley. Auctioneers. 141 Padiham Road Burnley. I then found some old paper bags with Broadley, Milliners of the same address.

I am just curious to know when this/these businesses were going especially as the said loft I found them in is located in Wallasey (Cheshire at the time probably). Anyone help?

Ta.

World War Two / Camp photo's
« on: Wednesday 05 December 07 13:00 GMT (UK)  »
Hello

On behalf of a terminally ill person, I am trying to trace any photographs that might exist of an army camp/base situated in Upton, Wirral which would then have been in Cheshire.

Unfortunately I haven't got a clue as to which units would have been there although possibly anti aircraft defending Liverpool but that is just a guess. If I could at least find this info out then I could contact the depot/s of the units involved to see if they could help.

All suggestions welcome please and this is rather urgent obviously.

Thank you

Hello,

I am putting this in the WW2 site also but perhaps someone on here can help?

On behalf of someone who is terminally ill, I am trying to trace information on the army camp which was situated in Upton Wirral where the Champion spark plug factory was.  The idea is to try and locate any photographs if possible.

It would help me if anyone local can tell me which units were situated there and then I can possibly get in touch with the main depots to see if they can help.

Historical society and local libraries have been contacted already with no results.

thank you

Cheshire / Daly info required
« on: Monday 01 October 07 11:16 BST (UK)  »
Hi all. I have posted on the Irish board but wanted to ask if our Cheshire people can help out as well. I am seeking information for an elderly American friend. His ancestor was John Curtain or Curtayne Daly born in Glanworth Co Cork in 1809. As most of his family came to Wallasey I was wondering if this man did the same? Any information would be gratefully appreciated.

Thank you.

Lancashire / History Weekend
« on: Thursday 13 September 07 21:19 BST (UK)  »
Can't see it mentioned anywhere.  Local history weekend running from Friday 14th to Sunday 16th inclusive at St George's hall Liverpool.  Admission 2 quid I think? Friday starts at 12 noon but the two other days open at 10, I understand.

Should be a fair few family history stalls I hope.
