Hi All,

I found out that one of my relatives is burried in the New Irish Farm Cemetery in Belgium. Is there anyone from Belgium here who might be able to take a photo of the stone for me? I know its probably unlikley, but you dont get if you dont ask.

Thanks

Carl.

The Common Room / Re: WHICH ANCESTER WOULD YOU LIKE TO MEET
« on: Thursday 23 December 04 13:00 GMT (UK)  »
I'd like to meet my g/grandfather Charles William Rowntree.

He was born in 1888 but seems never to have known who his father was (I might have a good idea though). He got married to Ellen Gillings in 1915 and she would have fell pregnant with my grandfather in about August 1918. Unfortunately Charles died in December 1918 so he never saw his son who was born in April 1919, and my grandfather (like his father) never knew his dad.

A bit sad really.

Dave,

Is this the rest of his family?

Hercules Escott. 24.  Horsehay, Shropshire, England. Son.  North Manchester  Lancashire.

Thomas Escott. 29.  Horsehay, Shropshire, England. Son.  North Manchester  Lancashire.

Dave,

Have you any idea what his occupation was?

The only reason I ask is that I have found a Thomas Escott aged 67 born in Somerset living in Somerset working as a Blacksmith and a Thomas Escott aged 71 born in Dorchester living in Hertford working as a Secretary to Banking...... on the 1901 census. Both of these ages could be possible but places of birth would not, although as you say, he would appear not to have known where he was born.

I'll keep looking to see if I can come up with anything else.

Carl.

Is the initial for this person an L or am I reading this wrong as well?

If he was a reverend, was it normal not to print his first name?

Hi all,

Just a quicky today.

Wm Clayton = William Clayton
Hy Brown = Henry Brown
Rw L Saywell = ?????????????

Any ideas what Rw stands for? I've had a quick look round the internet but so far no luck.
