 If it's the right one it may say widow of or wife of which would at least give a clue as to if he was still alive or not

In my father in law's tree there is scottish birth cert with the date of a wedding in Leeds in 1872, there is no record of this either.

They were obviously not married and just put it to look as if they were because she didn't get her divorce from her first husband until 1873!

Just as an aside to this, Aireyholme farm is still there, at the top of Aireyholme Lane on the way up to Roseberry Topping  :)

Cook is also a very common name in this part of the country.

I've just found her marriage to Alfred Cooke in the parish records on Ancestry, her Dad was George  ;D  ;D  Thank you for carying on looking on census, I wonder what they've been transcribed as??

Registration was not compulspry until 1875, if she died before that then she may not have been registered.  It does not say where you are on your profile but I think your best bet would be the parish records for her burial.

I've not got the marriage cert yet (I am going to order it) I was just trying to find her on census, fingers crossed that's my Matilda, wonder what she's indexed under in1861??!!
