Yorkshire (North Riding) / Re: Middlesbrough Cemeteries

Unfortunately it is very difficult to find a grave without the death cert or even a rough idea of when they died.  If you ring middlesbrough they like to know the date of death so they can find it in the records.  As far as I know they are not computerised and the ladies in the cemetery office have to look in the ledgers of the time, a broad search of those dates would not be possible.

London and Middlesex / Matilda Alice Christmas
« on: Wednesday 16 March 11 17:55 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking for Matilda Alice Christmas in London in the 1871 & 1861 census'.

She is on the 1881 married to James Alexander, with four children.  Her age is 29 which would indicate a birth year of 1851 and there is a birth in Kensington in 1851.

On the 1891 census James is dead and she has married Alfred Cooke, two of the boys are living with them under the name Cooke and her birth year has changed to 1854. (She is a witness on her daughters marriage cert in 1897 using the name Cooke)

There is also a Matilda registered in Shoreditch in 1854!!  But in 1891 her birthplace is Paddington and that comes under Kensington so I am more inclined towards the 1851 birth.

My problem is that I can find hide nor hair of her on census prior to her marriage to James Alexander in 1871!!

Migky has just sent me a link to this thread.
Tony made that journey for me and it lead to many emails and pictures, he was a lovely man and would do anything to help, he clearly loved the monastery and its renovation and he'd send me links to news articles on its progress.  He will be sadly missed, it's such a shame that the good die young...

Thank you Tony  :-*  :'(

That's wonderful thank you  ;D, I did wonder what all the various numbers meant.  Do you know if there is any way of finding out about the theft charge?  Would there be any records do you think?

Is there any way of finding out what the R stands for in the marriage of Albert R James to Lilian [MH] Laws Camberwell June Q 1916?  I'm not sure if he's my man and object to forking out £3 if they're not mine  :-X

Thanks
