just going over all these messages (Jan 2018) .. haven't looked at all this in a while .. interesting. One unanswered question here in Ontario. William Douglas died near London Ontario 1859 .. his wife Helen (not sure on spelling) 1862. But I can not find  where buried .. all I have is a story on William .. that he was a cattle butcher .. and on a winter day (and yes the winters in southern Ontario, can be bad) he went looking in the area (likely London Township, Middlesex County Ont) for a cow to buy (and butcher at home) but no luck ... and coming home he got somewhat lost .. pulled the horse and buggy or wagon into a some what sheltered area and was found frozen to death in the morning. My uncle Delmar Douglas told me this.
Most of his family ended up in Strathroy (Middlesex County Ontario) and Brooke township Lambton County Ontario Canada

.. changing subject some what. but I also have Wray.
William S Wray, died March 8 1894 at Strathroy Ontario Canada. Ontario death records (An***ry) give age as 53, born Hull England. He is also found in the 1891 Canadian census ... as being married .. age 50 .. Strathroy Ont. FreeBMD gives: William Smith Wray Mar 1840 Sculcoates .. that could well be him.
I believe he married in Ontario to a Mary Ellen Stephenson ... she was born around 1847 at Cottingham (just north of Hull)

On the Stephenson side ... the William that came to Canada (1854) .. left one brother .. Henry (who lived at Branton in Cantley Parish .. W Yorkshire). Both Henry and his parents Wm Stephenson and Alice Carter are buried in St Wifrid's Church grave yard (Cantley .. just S.E of Doncaster Yorks) .. And I believe the next generation back, is another William Stephenson a coachmaker of Doncaster, who died in 1806.

..... just off the top of my head: Alfred Stephenson married twice and had .. Edward/William/George/Jessie ..... John/Jim/Lucy/Walter/Mary/Etta/Fred/Archie/Maude/Mable ... plus about 3 that died as kids .. one from that first marriage and 2 from the second. John (oldest of the second marriage) was my great grandfather.

Yorkshire (West Riding) / Convicted at Doncaster ... newspaper lookup?
« on: Saturday 07 February 15 22:37 GMT (UK)  »
I have record of an Edwin Stephenson .. charged at Doncaster with robbery & violence. Sentence to 7 years (transportation) 13 Oct 1838. A Samuel Stephenson also charged with robbery at Doncaster .. sentenced at same time. Edwin was sent to a prison ship (Hulk) named Justitia at Woolwich (London area) ... where he arrived (via Hull) Nov 22 1838 .... died there 30 July 1839. Both Edwin & Samuel were 20 - 21 (or so)  at the time. Any chance the old Doncaster newspapers might have something about this trial ..
