I thought perhaps Cordwainer, the old term for a qualified Boot Maker.
The term was definitely still in use in 1861
What region are we in ?

Oh Sorry it's Hampshire

Can anyone decipher this occupation? My Relative was in service for this family and I can see he was a farmer..but can't read who he employed and how many acres.

It's Johnathon Grant, 1861, Wilcott RG9/307 pg13

many thanks

George's daughter Emily born 1894 Winchester was not with her family in 1901.  You will find her with William and Elizabeth DEW in South Stoneham.

Debra  :)

Oh WOW! Debra thankyou so so Much! You have just helped in solving a 16 year mystery! That link is concrete evidence that Elizabeth Dew IS George Allen Brewers Mother.

I am getting back on ancestry asap...I have a whole new branch of the family to investigate now!  :) :) :)

I found a possible long winded link between the keeping Family and South Stoneham. Samuel Keeping has a niece, Louisa, through his brother Joseph.

In 1881 She is living in south stoneham as an inmate. Could anyone possibly check to see if there are any DEW or BREWER names where Louisa was living.

Thanks would really appreciate it

I wonder if the Keeping family were known to the family elizabeth was in service for, or her family? Would love to find a link...which would strengthen our belief that she is the correct elizabeth i'm looking for
