Oxfordshire / John Meddoms marriage
« on: Sunday 11 October 20 11:39 BST (UK)  »
Hi all,

I would be grateful if anyone can assist in finding the marriage of John Meddoms 1840-1868 to Sarah Abbotts. The 1861 Census lists him as "married" a farmer of 130 acres at Hornton, Oxfordshire with his "wife", Sarah and new born daughter also named Sarah.

I have hunted for some time now all to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated. David

Thanks, Fay, I hadn't come across this before and just wondered why. What you say does make sense and it at least answers my question. Cheers, David

More help req'd please.

The above appears to have been baptised twice, on 6th February 1820 at St John, Deritend and also on 20th October 1820 at St Phillip, Birmingham. Both recorded in the England Births & Christenings 1538-1975 records, both with parents of Isaac & Ann.

Was this usual? Or were there two families both with parents of Isaac & Ann and a daughter of Susan Ballard, highly unusual me thinks.

Can I just thank everyone, as the author of this topic, for their input. It seems I have picked up some dud information along the way and will now go back and rectify.

Thanks again to all who contributed, David

Help is required over this quandary I have.

Hannah Gadd b 1855 in West Bromwich according to her baptism records had the parents of Benjamin Gadd & Elizabeth Law.

Benjamin's brother, James Gadd married Mary Ann Holloway and they too had a daughter named Hannah according to the 1871 Census b 1855.

I can only find one birth/baptism. Can anyone shed any light on this please?

Regards, David

Thanks to all who have responded. I was just going off the 1841 Census which has been attached to Alfred Worthington on the Family Search website, his ID reference being MMQG-JBS.

Whilst researching my extended family tree I have come across the above who according to the 1841 Census (HO107 494 27) was living with his mother and his siblings at Marine/Mesine Place, St James the Apostle Dover, Kent. I presume his father Benjamin was at sea as he was a Royal Navy Lieutenant.

My query is; at the bottom of the Census return it states Affiliate Record Type, Institution.

Can anyone say what type of Institution this was?

Thank you in anticipation.
