Hi Toni.  Thank you for all that detail.  Will look into the marriage of an Elizabeth and James Hart - Maria is a family name, if not particularly unusual.

Saddler seems an unusual occupation for a woman, I'm wondering if in fact its Elijah rather than Eliza - agree that it seems quite a jump from servant anyway, must be a skilled job possibly requiring an apprenticeship.  You've given me something to work on so many thanks.  Yvonne

Hi Lizzie.  John 1829 was born to John Collett b. 1805 Fressingfield and Catherine Baldwin b. 1803 St. James South Elmham -  he was married to Mary Penny.

Connection?  Cheers Yvonne

My apologies folks if I am posting in the wrong place, don't know the region involved

Am trying to find any information available about these two young ladies. Details I have as follows:

ELIZABETH b. 8/6/1861 Cawnpore, India
SARAH b 19/12/1862 Maradabad, India

PARENTS: JOHN COLLETT b. 1/8/1829  Ilketshall St. Andrew, Suffolk
MARY PENNY.  They were married in Stoke Dameral, Devon 8/4/1857

JOHN was a Private in the 54th Regiment and served in India where girls were born :)

On the 1881 Census

ELIZABETH age 20 is a Parlour Maid at Matlock Lodge Streatham
SARAH age 18 General Servant at 23 Upper Tollingworth(?) Hornsey, Middlesex

Can't find any trace of parents, or the girls after this census.  I  do know that a brother returned to Suffolk and stayed there.  (He married into my family)

If anyone knows this family would be very pleased to hear from them.  Many thanks  Yvonne

Technical Help / Re: Losing BB connection (Not any more)

Have had this problem for weeks and had become convinced it was my computer so a comfort to hear others are having the same inconvenience and what sounds like an answer because we have quite a lot of crackles and interference on the line.  Despite several expensive visits from computer 'experts' no lasting improvement.  Thanks everyone for the input. Yvonne

Hi Nanny Jan,  excuse the delay - lost my internet connection - again!!

No, I can't find Annie on the 1891 census and neither Annie or Fanny show up in BMD.  Annie's marriage to John Collett doesn't show either and I was kindly sent a copy of their marriage cert. so I do know it happened.  I think that this is one of the areas that hasn't yet been transcribed and a trawl thro the Parish Records would be the only way to prove her date of birth.

Thanks for your interest and helpful suggestions anyway - folks here are always so ready to help, its great,  best wishes Yvonne

Thank you very much Dave.  Just wish I had been interested in family history when Annie's sister Sarah was still alive, would have saved all the conjecture!!

I notice that you are interested in the Fisks and Goodwins - lived next door to the family of Frank Goodwin and went to school with Richard Fisk who lived close by.  This was in  Reydon in the 40s and 50s.   Thanks again  Yvonne :)

Would one of you kind folk try to solve a family puzzle?

My grandfather Francis Meadows b.1844 and his wife Mary Ann Elizabeth (nee Cable) have, according to an IGI Family Group Record, amongst other children, two daughters Fanny b.c1874 in Earl Soham and Annie christened 1886 South Cove.

Fanny is on the 1881 census aged 7, but no trace of her after this.  Annie married a John Christian George Collett on Feb 8th 1893.  She is described as 'Spinster aged 21' of Wangford, which would put her birth date nearer to Fanny's.

What we feel likely is that these two are one and the same girl, but if it was possible to check that only one birth was registered or, alternatively there were two,  it would settle an ongoing mystery - can anyone help please?

Yvonne  :)

hi Anne.  Taking the liberty to ask for your help again - if you have the time-  was hoping to make the journey to my old home in the autumn but  things happened and I didn't get there.

My grandfather, Francis Meadows 1844 has in his IGI Family Group Record 2 daughters, Fanny b. 1874 in Earl Soham and Annie b 1886 in South Cove.
Fanny turns up in 1881 census aged 7 but then appears to disappear.  Annie married John Christian George Collett on 8th Feb. 1893 in Wangford - her age was given as 21 - Spinster, which puts her birth date near to 1874 rather than the 1886 shown in the IGI record.  I am wondering if these two are in fact one and the same and there was a change of name but the two dates 12 yrs apart and the different birthplace, or christening venues are puzzling.

If you have the time - whenever convenient - to show some light here I would be most grateful.  best wishes Yvonne
