Suffolk Completed Lookup Requests / Birth Look Up - Rendham - CABLE
« on: Thursday 31 July 08 21:43 BST (UK)  »
I am trying to find a birth record for my gt. granpa WILLIAM CABLE

According to his death cert. he was 80 when he died on 19/04/1904
altho his marriage cert gives age as 21 in 1849, which also gives birthplace as Rendham and father John Cable - Labourer

I have details of his life from 1861 to his death inc. a 2nd marriage but can't trace his birth or parents and siblings.

Any info would be much appreciated   Thanks  Yvonne

Suffolk / Suffolk Burial Index- Abbreviations

Hullo folks - hope someone can explain an abbreviation in the comments column.

One of my ancestors has 'al ARTIS' in this column after her name in the Burial Index - does anyone have an explanation for this phrase?  Thanks Yvonne

Hi Harry - I did look on the site some time ago for Reydon and it seems to be one of the churches (St. Margarets) that isn't covered  for gravestones as well as other things - hard luck as I have numerous relations from there but I did find one in Southwold St.Edmunds.  Will certainly have another look in case it has now been included.  Many thanks. Yvonne

Thanks SM  I had thought about a fiche reader and was put on to a site - BMI Solutions who have 2nd hand ones, but unfortunately not very often.  Still if I can find a local library with one that might be a solution until I can find one of my own, if a CD isn't available.

Thanks again  Yvonne

Thanks Jebber - it may be a last resort because I haven't got a microfiche reader.  Yvonne

Suffolk / Birth, Marriage and Burial Records

Please can someone help.  I am considering, if its possible, buying CD's of Suffolk Births(or Baptisms), Marriages and Burials.

The villages I am particularly interested in are Cransford, Tunstall, Eyke, Sternfield, Benhall Southwold and Reydon.

I have looked at the SFHS Publications list and find that there is no mention of Reydon for instance, does this mean that some villages have not been covered or am I reading the information wrongly?  Also what information is given  in these lists.

I live in the North and its not likely that I shall have an opportunity to visit the Record Offices in Suffolk so thought this might be be the answer when researching my ancestors.

I have just applied to join the Suffolk FHS but would be very grateful for any advice that anyone with experience can offer.  Many thanks  Yvonne

Thanks again Toni - I was working on the same assumption regarding marriages after 1881 - just hoping someone had one or other of them in their tree after marriage.  Agree with Lizzie, don't think the older one is a connection, she doesn't seem to fit in anywhere - at present anyway.

Look forward to receiving the family details Lizzie - am in contact with a direct descendant of John's cousin - John Christian George who will be delighted to hear more news of the family.  Many thanks  Yvonne
