Dear Pauline - thanks for such a speedy reply. At the moment I cannot access the familysearch page but this will certainly be George Naden No.2. He was born in 1826 and George No.3 in 1856. No.3 has not been too bad as we are in the era of registration. No.2 is a bit more difficult but I am getting there. Generally I have some of the dates and can see a way forward but No.1 is before registration and i am not sufficiently skilled at this to find the best way forward hence my search for assistance.

Can members help me please.  I think George and Jane married 26 Dec 1821. They lived in Birmingham. George was born somewhere around 1800 and was, I think, a tea dealer and grocer with premises in Birmingham High St. I am trying to establish their birth and death dates and indeed whatever other information might be available. I have found this family difficult to unravel as George's son and grandson are both called George as well.
Any information would be gratefully received.

Hello again,

Thanks to everyone for their help. Unfortunately I fear that age makes me forgetful and a bit slow on the uptake so here is some background. Firstly, thanks for introducing me to freereg; useful as we have to go to the library to access Ancestry.

I have acquired a copy of the will of Joseph Dawson who died in Kendal in 1858. It says 'the children of my late brother Robert Dawson.....' and later  'shall be forwarded to May??? Dawson of Jackson????Street Manchester St Oldham the widow of my late brother'. So Robert junior must be another son of Robert senior and Jane Proud. At the moment I cannot access the censuses to check the facts.

Good progress but can we find the father and mother of the Robert who married Jane. Again my grateful thanks to one and all.

PS Can we find out if the lady in Oldham was May Mary Molly or Mally?

Pauline - thanks for your note. The info was on a piece of scrap paper in what looks like my handwriting. Where any details came from I have no idea.  I have paid the price of my folly by writing on scraps of paper when I have been given it. I hang my head in shame,  Recorder

Can members help me please. I am trying to learn about the ancestors of Robert Dawson. The info I have is as noted below but I do not know if it is correct -

Robert Dawson's brother Joseph was born in 1800 in Newcastle; Robert possibly in Hexham.  Robert married Molly/Marry/May Kay in Oldham 14 November 1831 at St Marys.

Robert's parents are  thought to be Robert Dawson and Jane Proud and his grandparents Thomas and Dinah Dawson born 1734 and 1736 resp.

I am sorry the info is so sparse but it is all I have so any help would be wecome.

I have found a note which I must have made years ago but I cannot find where I got the information and whether or not it is correct. Joseph Dawson was born 25 June 1800 in Newcastle. My note suggests that he and his brother Robert Dawson (born Hexham??) were the sons of Robert Dawson (senior) and Jane Proud (married 29 Feb 1792) and that the parents of Robt Dawson (senior) were Thomas and Dinah born 1734 and 1736 resp. Can anyone  confirm that these details are correct please and also let me know if any more details can be found.

Daisy -thanks for the details. The marriage record certainly suggests that it is the Maria on my list.
The John Wilson will be the one who married Maria's mother so it certainly suggests that she was born out of wedlock. John died in 1856 so it seems reasonable to suppose Maria went to live with her son Thomas. I now have, I think, the full picture apart from the full details of her birth. Excellent! :) :)
